well some of them anyways.

who are some of your favorite musical artists.

me i would have to say raymond scott is a guy who most of you have all heard but dont even know who he is.

http://RaymondScott.com/ripples.mp3

this would have most likely been recorded in the 1950s and well raymond scott also was the man responsible for most of the looney tunes soundtracks.
aside from that he really foresaw many things to do with electronic music.
pioneering things like synthesisers sequencers and drum machines.
i believe that one of his synths he created was bought by motown for a million dollars back in the sixties and was used on all kinds of recordings.
now it sits in mark motherbaughs office in the columbia records building in hollywood.

i mean a lot of people might not get why i am obessed with his work but consider this
here we have a man who built his own instruments back in the 50s.
he produced music that no one had ever heard before and eventually influenced every genre of electronic music known to man just out of the sheer fact a lot of the gear was his idea.
http://RaymondScott.com/twilight.mp3

he lived a pretty long life and well up until the time of his death he continued to work on creating new instruments.

next up
i would have to say delia was a massively huge importance to modern electronic music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDX_CS3NsTk

she is also the person largely responsible for this

this track was simply revolutionary and well one must consider that making music of this nature in 1963 was just pure science fiction.

joe meek was a deeply troubled soul theres no doubt about it but he should be remembered for the man responsible for the first song to ever be transmitted in real time across the ocean from the uk to the usa .
this was a quantum leap in communications technology and he was the english version of phil spector who was heavily influenced by joe meeks sound.
too bad joe decided one day to head upstairs fall into a funk and blow his landladys head off and then turn the gun on his self.
its pretty cool to listen to how the track telstar evolved in his brain from a really crude demo to the classic track it ended up as.
old stuff for sure but there isnt too many hardcore bands that havent snagged ideas off of the guy.

of course these guys
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWlgbAc3bbM
what can really be said about them anyways.
i mean it kind of leads into this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BgxW57nDO8

theres dozens of musical heroes for me. i mean i could go on forever but i thought i would post a few of the most obscure ones.
i like modern music but i really dont have much time for any kind of modern pop music. thats just me tho.

Wow Bill, really great choices... I digg them very much... finally someone who likes the pioneer electronic stuff like Raymond Scott and so on...

Besides all the artists you mentioned in your very original thread, I'd like to mention some of my heroes which I think you'll also enjoy.

- Louis and Bebe Barron (Among other things, the ones responsible for the "Electronic Tonalities" of the 1956 Cult Science Fiction Film "Forbidden Planet" with a very, very young Leslie Nielsen).

- Wendy Carlos (previously "Walter" Carlos before the sex change thing) - She/He did the Soundtracks for Clockwork Orange, The Shining and TRON...

- Juan García Esquivel (or simply "Esquivel") - The King of Space Age Pop! Yeah! http://www.spaceagepop.com/esquivel.htm

- Hugo Montenegro - Orchestra Leader, very famous for the cover of the song "The Good, the bad and the ugly"

- Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman and Les Baxter (to me, the 3 main pilars of exotica music....) Oh Yeah!!!

- Yma Sumac - Peruvian singers with a staggering 5 octave voice - http://www.yma-sumac.com/

- Ken Nordine - THE Voice - Favourite is 1967's "Colors"

- Ferrante & Teicher - Two pianists known mainly for their versions of familiar classical songs and movie soundtracks, etc.

Cheers!

that is someone who really should have made the list.

just watched the film again the other night. damn still blows my mind the soundtrack.
louis and bebe both really really are enchanting with there work real sonic alchemistry going on there.

i must also give a nod to a lot of rock artists.
brian wilson
brian eno
john cale
i could go on and on.

i have been thinking lately about giving up making records with songs on them and perhaps making a tonal album. i think it could be fun to do .
i really have to use some of these synths more again

Musical heroes, eh...

Kurtis Mantronik
The master of drum and beat programming. No one came close to him back in the day and from the crap I hear on the radio these days, there is still no one who can get him. Most of the drum programming I've done over the years is inspired by Mantronik.

Gene Puerling
Simply the greatest vocal arranger of all time. He arranged for the Hi-Lo's, Singers Unlimited, Manhattan Transfer, Vince Gill, etc.

Dean Martin
The No. 2 member of the Rat Pack. Dean just had it all - voice, looks, swagger, charisma. Sinatra had it too, but there was just something that always seemed "uptight" about Sinatra.

Willie Nelson
This man has probably lived every single country song. His ballads are my favorite as you really get to hear the emotion he puts into the lyrics.

Nice RBJ.
Some others I have to add to the ranks Ella, Miles, John, Thelonius, Charlie(Mingus and Parker) and i'll throw Herbie Hancock into the mix!

Another one of my passions, a cappella music!!!

Gene Puerling is THE MAN!!!

If you like a cappella music (FatDog) then you'd probably like one of these:

Cadence (Canada)

The Real Group (Sweden)

Xcor (Venezuela, my group, )

:breakdance:

Boom Shaka Laka

Requiem Æternam
WOW!!

The Real Group = Swingle Singers. Vocalizations of instrumental pieces. Way cool.

The Singers Unlimited recorded one of my all-time favorite Christmas albums, which includes the Alfred Burt carols. Magnifico!

Wow... what a question. I could spend on day on this one...

So, before I list some of my musical heroes, I want to say that list is subject to later additions, as it is missing many that I admire.

Peter Gabriel, esp the Secret World tour. Great music!

Bruce Hornsby - Man, can that guy put some heart, soul and funk into a piano! And he put on the best concert I've ever heard in my life. (300 people, basically in a gym. There was a blizzard outside and only about 20% of the people showed up. He absolutely rocked it.

Prince - played all the instruments on his first album and has written as many hits for others as he has for himself. Can funk it out and cry with the best of them. Remember that superbowl halftime in the pouring rain! Like him or not, you can't deny his talent.

Carlos Santana - Do I really need to even justify him on this list?

DJ Sasha - I think he's been ranked among the top 10 DJ's in the world every year for the last 15 or so years. His own production work is beautiful, moving and intelligent. This is not your cheezy radio station tweaky-ass wannabe dance music here! Listen to all 10 minutes of this track from from his "Belfunk" EP called Xpander and tell me you didn't rock out to this!!!!:
His "Airdrawndagger" full length CD is also worth a download.

Herbie Hancock - This man is amazing!

BB King - His name fits him perfectly. King of the blues.

Jean Michel Jarre - He is the son of Maurice Jarre, a French composer and conductor who won multiple academy awards fof his film scores. JMJ is truly one of the great originators of electronica, but not as a studio or bedroom musician, he did it on a really grand scale going back to the 70's, even! And he's still writing music... YouTube is great, but you should hear the production quality of his original vinyls and CDs. Check out this montage of live performances to Rendezvous:

And this is one of my Favorite pieces of music of his, Geometry of Love:

... and like I said, there are so many others that could be on here, these just came immediately to mind.
