ok norm ill trade you a rx 7700 for your gf800 no what im sayinSuperduper said:I "wish" they were all 1 piecers BUT they are not and there are so many good 3-piecers out there that they can't be ignored. The (2) that I listen to most right now are both 3-piecers: My Panny C300 and my Sharg GF-800z. In general, 1 piecers are more attractive (to me) and classy. In general, 3 piecers sound better but they have the advantage of sealed speaker enclosures.
So BOTH.

Remember to pack it well. BTW, I'm still waiting for the last 1/2 dozen boxes.. |-) |-) |-) waiting..... |-) |-) |-)

...but I appreciate the history lesson.
The 90's are a different story tho... Because of car stereo systems, if your music could be heard 100 (?) feet away, you could get ticketed in Philly.
By then, boomboxes were already out of vogue.

for outside- 1 piece
My big PHILIPS 3piecer is perfect for home usage.

mellymelsr said:...let me clarify for you oldschool...in the early 80's 3 piecers were not available, at least not in my neighborhood, and one piece boxes had so much style and bling...when 3 piece boxes arrived in the late 80's to early 90's they were bland by comparison. No disrespect just my opinion......I was refering to boomboxes not portable stereos.....but I appreciate the history lesson.
Like everything, there was a compromise.

I've never seen police handing out tickets tho 'cause cats would just turn the volume down when they drove by and turn it back up when they were out of sight.
By then, boomboxes were already out of vogue.

As for the '84 thing... I didn't see big 1-peice boxes start disappearing from electronics store windows - not talking about the big name companies, but Mom & Pop shops - until about '89/'90.![]()
Gluecifer said:Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't the predominance of higher powered 3 piecers come into the market when public ordinances tried to ban one piecers being used in public? So the companies then focussed on 3 piecers that could, technically, be carried but were more for being porable around the house.
I did read that somewhere, either here or elsewhere online, I hope someone can clarify.
This was the main reason I thought the big 1 piecers started thinning out from 84 onwards.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong though, I do find all this stuff fascinating!!
Rock On.
