Was Offered $90 for my Sharp GF-9797 - Thoughts?

Hey there, just wondering how much I could potentially get for a Sharp GF-9797, fully functional from the tuner to the tape deck and everything else. The LED display light is slightly dim but it doesn't take away from it's performance. It has a few slight scuffs from storage but other than that it is quite lovely to look at.

I've seen discussion of this boom box on these forums about auctions on eBay, albeit scoffing at prices as high as $850USD, which are pretty outlandish as I've read that this isn't exactly the rarest of units. I've been offered $90AUD dollars for it, do you think I could get more for it if I put it on eBay or should I take the 90? I originally told the potential buyer that I'd only be willing to part with it for 100 due to my fondness for it and won't be held hostage as I'm quite happy to keep it.

Anyone ever sold a Sharp GF-9797 or had a similar selling experience?

He probably wants to put it on Ebay after buying it from you

That may well be the case, I think he really only wants it as a kitsch ornamental piece, condition meant more to him than performance.

You probably wouldn't get much more for it being in Australia. Shipping charges to anywhere else in the world would turn many potential buyers away I would think.

I would counter-offer with $120 and see what happens.

Yeah, you're right about that. Hell, even domestic postage is pushing boundaries, not many people would want to pay for it plus another 50 dollars on top of that, a few would mind you but not many.

I'll report back with my next move soon :)

I think the $50 shipping to the states isn't correct. I havn't found a shipping company to send a box for less than $100 :dunce:

Sorry to say but boomboxs in australia just dont
get big Dollars
i just got a gf8989 for $77
So yea anything around $100 sounds good
And same old story we will all pay $100
For a jvc m70 but when we all have one then theres no
Market and some lucky person gets s second
One for $50
This is all hypethetical
So take what you can if you need to if not
Keep it and if your a collecter theres more value
In a trade
Best of luck

No no, I meant domestic shipping. It'd cost a fortune to ship out anywhere else.

That'd be more accurate, in which case, as i said I'd be quite happy to keep it.

Just got a few more offers, more food for thought. :hmmm:

Didn't realise I had the boombox illuminati tracking my IP. The reason I came here, like a lot of people, is to get advice on boomboxes and pricing. As I said, I won't be held hostage to a price on something that I'm pretty attached to, not to say that you are taking the mickey, but I guess if I'm going to part with something I'd want a good price, maybe even recoup what I paid. I've bought and sold on on many boomboxes in the past, had I known about a forum like this I'd have gotten advice earlier and may have been better off as it's an expensive hobby. I assume you're here to get the same info, I may well have replied on your thread writing the same thing you did. Apologies for any apparent work/butthurt caused.

all is cool ... though I was hardly holding you hostage. You were the one who offered it to me for $50 (with knowledge that it had to be fixed) .. When I accepted you then told me $100 because you had opened it up and fixed a few things. I offered $90 because of the original $50 deal and because you had hot glued :-O the handle together on the inside and I am not quite sure of your skills. I would hate to open it up and your fix be real ugly like.

Anyway .. hope you get what you want for it :-) No hard feelings
