On a similar note, not branding wise, but feature wise, I DETEST any radio with plastic lattice speaker grills. That Nordemende looks like excrement compared to a genuine 838, extra features or not, to me.
Excrement

I hear you about plastic mesh, but what about more artistic plastic, like swiss cheese? I love my Panny mono:

the one model of box i never liked no matter how good it is , is the jvc kaboom . this box is hideous looking and i see no benefit to owning one :-P . i had one but it was more fun to smash than it was to use .
That's it!!! :w00t:
I couldn't think of a brand that I hated enough to post but that hidious tube thing has to be it.
I know they sound good but,
I wish there was a smiley with vomit coming out of the mouth.

Fun thread!

Cheers OSS :afro:

Not a fan of that rubbish either. The only things that should obscure a speaker, besides a nice fine mesh, is chrome bars.
That flower power circular stuff isn't to my liking at all.

I have always looked at those speaker gills and thought they have to block the sound and air pressure flow. I think of them as a fashion statement not a performance enhancement.

Hey shane, your right

Interesting thread !
I have to say i was surprised that some where mentioning brands such as Marantz
and Sharp and Sony
Then i noticed that most would add in an exception :-)

So like Rick mentioned, even your least favorite brand probably came up with the goods
on at least one model

So for me it would be the brand SIlver

I have always passed on any Silver brand boxes i see, they always look cheap and boring and
i really just dont like them, except...
i do have an Silver SR 8000 and SR 8800. If you ever get the chance to listen to one that is working
as it should you may want one too

Sorry NZ

and yeah, thats actually one of the Silvers i had and got rid of

Little 'Off Topic' but that exact Silver that Craig posted was the model of radio used in my high school in 1986 for french lessons that were on cassette that we had to learn from. EVEN BACK THEN I thought it was a piece of crap and was appalled at how low quality it was.

But, as AZA says, the 8800 Silvers are rock hard.

Also, not a fan of that security-door style grill like on that model Silver too.

Tape doors that are twice as big as they need to be
They make the boombox look small in photos

 I hate those boomboxes that have speakers that are 4 inches and looks like they are 6 in a half inches. Those are speaker spacers. To me that is a real dudu.

Subwoofers should be the biggest speakers..........But on the GF777 they look smaller than the other 2. That was a poor design choice IMHO.

Ok something stirred inside me and reminded me I hate any Boombox with a musical keyboard drum machine included. I mean hate isn't even the word . I just think they are the stupidest sounding things . I have about forty Casio keyboards in the synth room and pretty much any of them including the Casio rap man sounds better than any Boombox synth.
