Can I admit I'm not a big fan of the C100?

Yeah yeah, it's big and huge, it's shiny, it attracts attention, but.....

What's the use of being a 3-way box if nobody knows? A bystander can't see that it has 6 speakers, because 4 of them are covered by weird square cheese-graters. They should have used 6 round grills like the Bombeat 40.

Also, not a fan of the red stripe around the woofers

Really dislike SABA and NORDMENDE boxes
The few of them i found are not beautiful looking, and those i got had big failures. :annoyed:

For me I dont like lloyds, Crown, Unisef, GPX, Coby, Embassy, They all sounds like KaKa. Embassy have made some gorgeous boxes as well as Crown and Unisef, But sound wise are b ad.

A Crown 850L or 970 or 980 in good-working condition is a great sounding box

Interesting thread !
I have to say i was surprised that some where mentioning brands such as Marantz
and Sharp and Sony
Then i noticed that most would add in an exception

So like Rick mentioned, even your least favorite brand probably came up with the goods
on at least one model

So for me it would be the brand SIlver

I have always passed on any Silver brand boxes i see, they always look cheap and boring and
i really just dont like them, except...
i do have an Silver SR 8000 and SR 8800. If you ever get the chance to listen to one that is working
as it should you may want one too

the one model of box i never liked no matter how good it is , is the jvc kaboom . this box is hideous looking and i see no benefit to owning one . i had one but it was more fun to smash than it was to use .

I think I'd have to add mitsubushi to the list as well. Despite having that crazy multicasette loader I have never come across anything good by them.

If you ever find 70 s. Mitsubishi hifi speakers they will blow your lid off but ather wise they not to be spoken of around here

I've never liked the Clairtone 7980/Conion C-100F. It's not the look, love the looks, totally 80's. It's the sound that is so disappointing. Loud, and that's it. No sound quality at all. I have two so, it's not a bad example. When I play the M90 and the Clairtone at the same time, you can hear the "sweetness and warmth" of the M90, the Clairtone is just harsh and loud. No matter what I try to do with the bass/midrange/treble. But their terrific to stare at and travel back in time

got to say i'm not a fan eva of the M90 it may sound great and all that but it's a bit boring to look at!! a little bit what my dad would have when i would have the brash and curious 777 M70 is a better looker!! but if i was offered one for a tenner i'd take it! But more of a mid sized lovely sounding box man !!

Sure they look great! I have yet to hear one make any decent noise though! Luck of the draw perhaps?

Without offending anyone.
Everyone has probably mentioned by now, a box that they don't like that someone else does.
Here's another one from me.
Rounded edges on a Boombox.
I know several fellow enthusiasts have the new Lasonics and love the look but the rounded edge thing
seems so non comital to me. Is it a box or not?

On a similar note, not branding wise, but feature wise, I DETEST any radio with plastic lattice speaker grills. That Nordemende looks like excrement compared to a genuine 838, extra features or not, to me.

I dont like any box which is invisible in the dark. One led for power and so dont count - thats just to not kick it in the dark . And needle VUs are so 70 ish on the boxes from the 80s
