Here are some Pictures and Video (now in HD!) of the Yorx BP1000 that a friend of mine gave me. We’ll, I paid him the $8.00 he bought it for

This is a triple cassette deck player, with one deck that pops out to become a walkman (Walkgirl is going to love this thing!). It has a 3 band eq disguised as a 6 band ;-) and individual volume sliders.

This radio has some interesting features, like the way the detachable speakers lock in place when the handle is up and the way the two main cassette decks are sideways!

This unit will record from decks A to B and it also has continuous playback from deck A to B and from B to C! So it will play one side of 3 tapes continuously. So if you have three 90 minute cassettes, 45 minutes per side of 3 cassettes, this unit would play for 135 minutes non stop. That’s pretty damn cool. :sin:

It’s a 4 speaker system has one antenna (original), has a clean battery box and battery cover, even the walkman still has it's battery cover and runs on 6 D cell batteries.

The issues that I have found:

The antenna needs the brass washers put back in for it to stand up. Decks A&B play slow, ff & rw works, but I think the belts are slipping, so both need a re-belt. The walkman plays perfectly on batteries, but not in the boombox. I can see there is corrosion on the contacts of the walkman to the power supply of the boombox. No big deal. The walkman is missing one button, but the stop button is identical to the one missing. Bredgeo!!!!

She's going to need a full cleaning!

BTW, when was the last time you listened to a walkman of this era? These things are F'n LOUD! No joke, I plugged in my headphones to my cell phone and into this and this is WAY SCREAMIN' ASS LOUDER! :-O :hmmm:

Anyway, here's pic's

Nice review Chris but you forgot to say...........

How DO YOU LIKE IT? :hmmm:

You know.....I don't know....I think I need to spend some time with it. I was just listening to the walkman through some old school Sony headphones and WOW, I so remember "That Sound" from back in the day. I did make another video that I need to post of the radio playing, but I don't get good reception here, so it was scratchy. I'll need to get the decks going, probably clean the contacts on the walkman and see if I can get power to it for play back as the other two need belts.

So Norm, you said you had one of these, what kind of shape is yours in? Have you ever worked on it? Easy? Is it all there? Pictures?

LOVE this radio!! I'm not a massive fan of any component/threepiecer radios, but this one tickles my fancy to the point of obsession!!!

Utterly gorgeous graphics and design. And the three-deck gimmicks are totally mind blowing!

If anyone's looking at selling one please keep me in mind.

A real work of art. Thanks mucho for the hot review Chris!

I totally know what you mean Rick, when I saw this at my buddies I thought, wow, that is a unique radio. I always like things that do other things! IT'S A TRANSFORMER!

I do remember stuff like this back in the day. I never really paid much attention back then because my eye always followed the big noise makers around back then (and now  ). For me, it's really like seeing it for the first time.

Very cool little find Chris  I was always intrigued with the way these came apart for a Walkman style stereo. I also always wanted the stereo cassette Walkman with the fm tape tuner you just slide into tape deck :-D here is a Unisef I picked up a couple years ago for like a buck or two ;-)

Todays youth would call that a "ipod docking station" - where you take your portable music device and "dock" it to a larger audio output unit.

So we call it a "walkman docking station"

Nice Unisef! Can you play the radio without the cassette? The price was right, that's for sure!

That's exactly what it is, a docking station! I wonder if I could make a ipod dock that would slide into where the cassette goes! :w00t:

No the deck has the volume control on it  But I did get the unit working great except in mono because only one channel works on amp for the speakers, but it does work in stereo with headphones  It's still a fun unit :-D

Interesting....I guess it was meant as one or the other....I still dig this style of radio! Smart...seems like they were trying anything to hang on to the blaster market, while the walkman started to take over!

Haha, I knew I'd get a response from you, Freddie!

But I'd honestly trade a sansui/denon/yamaha/technics/etc for this Yorx.

Always reminds me of Double Dare and Finders Keepers.
I'll pick one up if I stumble across one. I (almost) never buy boxes from eBay, though I know there are usually one or two floating around.
"Yorx!"
