Yeah, I would have chalked the pre-amp up as broken if I didn't read about the interesting remote setup for this system.

What a strange feature!

I'm just happy the system works, the woofers work, and the rest is going to be easy/cheap to get 100% again.

That's awesome Joe, glad to hear. Been awhile and forgot about the remote, but never knew any different, doh.
Still need to replace mids?

Why are the dust cap kits so expensive? $20 for 2 caps seems nuts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/290552336120?lpid=82&chn=ps

I tried the tape trick to try to pull the dent out of one cap. It did a pretty good job, but as soon as I popped the first major part of the dent out the voice coil started rubbing inside the magnet :bang:. I pushed it back in. The speaker was probably being pulled out of shape casing the coil to rub.

I'll look at some other speakers I have, maybe there is a 4.5" dust cap I can pull off them.

Why not just go with the paper ones for $6? Know they were Poly , but the cost?

Item 271347682329

Just carve out/off the old ones, trying to salvage them at this point is too risky, and they will never look that good.

$12 + shipping on the paper ones from parts express, or $22 shipped on the Yamaha brand, I want to keep them as authentic as I can.

I will be putting 4.5" dust caps right over the 4" caps. I don't want to risk damaging the woofers.

Thanks for the link ;-)

I'm suspecting that both speaker cabinet crossovers are faulty. Probably the reason both mid range speakers were blown too. None of the 6 tweeters produce sound whn hooked up to the crossovers.

Do any of you have knowledge on testing or replacing components on a crossover? I'll start by replacing the caps if I can get to the board.

Really not looking good now. All of the tweeters might actually be blown as well. Boooooooo

Need to take these apart and test each one :-/

Try them out for sound with a trusted source other than the amp they came with to make sure, and remember to turn the Bass down all the way.

BTW, have you tested the DC offsets on that amp ? As I had mentioned, mine were shot, and that can be hazardous to a speakers' parts!

Hopin' for ya!

^ thanks for the tips.

I removed all the speakers for a full test and the results are not good.

Horns blown.
2" tweets blown.
4" mids blown.

Only speakers working were the piezo tweets mounted to the plastic fronts and the 15" woofers.

I still need to test the crossovers.

With the speakers I already have, I was able to match up a pair of 2" and a pair of 4" to mount back into the cabinets. The horns I will probably remove the blown section and glue a new tweeter to the back of the horn so I can retain the original look of the boxes. I also have a set of 4" Yamaha speakers on the way here from epay, so I won't need to use the silver 4" speakers shown below.

Can ya shoot me or post a pic of the back of the horn driver to see the code, and the dimensions of it ?

I am pretty sure they may be Fosters (Fostex). I have these ( a few pair, somewhere, lol) if you figure you can incorporate them onto horns. You can have them if you like and cannot find something else to work. Body of driver is 2-3/8" dia

Oh that would be awesome. Not sure on the diameter right now but here is a pic. It probably is roughly the same size as yours. Do those back ends of the horns just glue into place? I've never taken one apart before.

Here is a vid showing the inside of a Foster horn:

Doesn't look like too bad of a deal to swap out the guts.....

Give me a day to dig up the other ones I have to see if I have an exact match for the 7622 you have. I will also check if they are all close in impedence, and then it's a guess, lol Will also figure shipping $

And more, lol Can you say hoarder.

Foster tweet 013.jpg

I just have to test all when I get my meter, but I think they all are very close in impedence, but will see

Little time today.

Modified the 2" tweeters I had laying around. Flattened, drilled, and trimmed the flanges.
Finished peeling off the gold dust caps from the Yamahas.
Glued the new dust caps over the old ones on the woofers and patched a tear in the surround.
Opened up the horn tweets to see the guts and found both had a broken wire 'hair'. Crazy as it sounds I managed to add a hair of wire and solder it to the existing strand. I'll test them later, maybe they will be OK.

Couldn't figure out how to load pics in Messenger, so here is what I am sending you. All 3 have that phase plug but the odd one is the single one with the leads still attached.
