Hmm, charity shops used to be good for boxes but now that only the BHF can afford PAT testing and staff engineers, the real charities rarely have anything that can be connected to the mains and when they do, they have to remove the mains lead from it and stress that it's sold purely as an ornament. It's H&S gone mad I tells ya!
There is an Auntie Wainwright-style secondhand shop just across in Morpeth, about 9 miles inland, but they're more into valve stuff which is handy for those of us who like that sort of thing. I did get my incredibly rare Hacker RPC1 there though, at a mere £12 - in unused from new condition with all of its dial print intact and a full complement of station markers - when the cheapest working one I ever saw on eBay went for over £90 and they usually bring nearer £200, possibly because it's the best ever UK-built mono box but more likely because its tape transport is built by Nakamichi, yes,
that Nakamichi.
Last time I drove down to Newcastle for a look in the big BHF in Byker, they had some truly shocking, '90s Aiwa shelf system and were asking £80 for it, in a condition that made it look as though someone had recently been sick all over its grilles.
Welcome to the forum, by the way.
