Wouldn't doubt he went inside and cut the power to the motor because it started running constantly after the belts broke.
I though that too,but everything looks untouched. This thing is a PITA to work on. It took me almost an hour just to get it apart. :bang:
The seller said he was listing to a cassette one day and it just stopped playing and hasn't worked since. :hmmm:

Not that I have any experience in these, but this era of electronics, especially high end stuff can be very complicated and packed! A combination of high end features and "Let's see how small we can make it" was all the rage at the time. Mix in the fact that it's analog doing what computer chips started doing just a short time after.

Sure would be sweet if you can get it worked out. That could be one of the best sounding decks in a portable.

Never seen this model before, infact I never even knew denon made boxes. It looks sweet as a nut skip, really love the style and looks like it's solid. A rare bird indeed, congrats

I have wanted one of these for more than a minute. Congrats Scott! Sorry about the function issues though. :-)

Heya Skippy, since I've been using my Denon H-70 this weekend I noticed the meters on that work on every input. The difference between the H-55 and H-70 is only in colour/speaker design and a couple of deck features, so I'd like to change my original post to 'No', they should work in all modes. I am currently unsure to where my H-55 to test this out, however.. They're definitely a pain to work on, only boombox I've ever seen with PCB's joining at right angles inside, utter madness.

Here's a pic of an H-70 for those new to the Denon boombox magic. They're both totally rockin, and because they cheat with the power (The D's in the deck component ONLY power deck and radio to headphone output) the sound on them is huge. Currently putting my H-70 to work with my new Sansui P-L40 turntable. Very nice sounding combination!

The Technics SA-C05L has three smaller boards inside that meet around the back of the deck to form half of a cuboid shape, and of thae three, one is the A/F amp board. All three sub boards are edge mounted to each other, so working in any depth (including fitting belts) involves the sort of skills required by one of those annoying people off "Britain's Got Talent" (but we hide it well), who can build a house of cards using the whole bloody pack without a single card falling down!
So for that reason, the Denon has to be better.

Swapsies?

Haha, ahh, I already have one of those Technics SA's unfortunately, John.

Here's a nice bonus for everyone to celebrate Skippy's new Denon! A quick and dirty scan of the .jp brochure for one of the H variations from my stash. (Check out the price!!)

Newby here, I have managed to score the Denon H-7 cant find much about it but the radio cassette acts as a preamp which feeds the lower amp module apparantly only half the output when runing on batteries. I have changed the belts and got the tape working and all other functions. This is the best sounding Getto I have ever heard. Its a keeper.

Photos,

interestingly it has solenoid lift on the heads so it like soft touch Tape functions

Looks like the H-7 is the export model with upgrade on speakers and two extra radio bands.
