Some may wonder why I am bothering to post this tiny little Sanyo. It not worth anything....or is it?
Let me start off with the fact that I never paid attention to the differences in one radios reception to another when I was growing up. I lived in an area where AM and FM signals were strong and it seemed as though every radio could get the job done. Never gave it a thought.
Some of my wokeness to the quality of a receiver can be due to watching Shango066 on his YouTube channel. He aligns old radios and, through his videos and resurrection of radios, makes it clear that not all radio receivers are equal. Some need to be adjusted as the components on the boards drift in value. Others need help because someone was in there that shouldn't have been. But in the end, he usually gets everything squared away and he keeps some of his best performing models for his enjoyment when traveling.
While this little radio falls short in just about every area you can think of, there's one area it shines well in. Radio reception / Tuner.
This little Sanyo is the best performer for receiving SW/AM and FM signals I have ever seen. And while I am sure my other radios could use a tune up, this thing absolutely spanks my M90 and other higher end models on all bands. I can pick up foreign countries with this thing. Stations that are mute to other radios in my house this thing picks up without an issue. It is extremely dialed in. To put it in layman terms...this thing kicks a** !
It is for this reason I keep this little guy around. The irony in this whole thing was that this poor radio was left at the street for trash pickup.
Sometimes there's more than meets the eye when it comes to these little tiny vintage radios. Where it falls short, it more than makes up for in the radio receiver. Not all may work equally these days, but this one was dialed in by a pro. Probably had an inspection day at the plant so they tweaked the coils to perfection so the big wigs would be impressed.
