It's been a while since I cranked my JC-2000. To be honest my recollections of her sound have somehow been skewed over the last year or two.
I was under the impression this behemoth was all looks and not especially great with her sound. My memories were that she wasn't able to handle the power
she was designed for and just didn't cut the mustard. Boy howdy, I'm very, very pleased to say I was very, very wrong.
Today I've been cranking my big ghettos with some excellent 80s dance/electro/italo classics.
Had both Lasonics, my M90, C-100F, J-747 and now my JC-2000 working good and hard.
The final report? The JC-2000 has more bass than anything, ever. Period.
Now, it's not hifi warm, deep and detailled bass. But it's very THUDDING and BOOMING bass. I don't know where my memories of this being underpowered and empty sounding came from, but it's anything but. I really wanted to double check this as it has been haunting me over the last few weeks.
Now, the failure of the JC-2000 isn't the sound. No, it's the BOX itself.
This thing vibrates and carries on like you wouldn't believe. It really doesn't even matter how loud it is, the reverberation just takes control.
This is what I must've originally heard that made me fall out of love with her a bit.
I always wanted to fill her with dyna-mat or something, but never found any when I had enough money to make it happen.
I really want to apoligise to the brotherhood for discounting this ridiculously impressive box. It SHOULD be in everyone's needs list as it really does
obliterate most everything else with it's low end power. Yes, it's cheaply made and the tape mechs aren't marvellous but as a ghettoblaster, not a portable
hifi, this is really the canine's gonads.
Now to get that case sorted out methinks....
Rock On.
