It's been a while since I cranked my JC-2000. To be honest my recollections of her sound have somehow been skewed over the last year or two.

I was under the impression this behemoth was all looks and not especially great with her sound. My memories were that she wasn't able to handle the power
she was designed for and just didn't cut the mustard. Boy howdy, I'm very, very pleased to say I was very, very wrong.

Today I've been cranking my big ghettos with some excellent 80s dance/electro/italo classics.

Had both Lasonics, my M90, C-100F, J-747 and now my JC-2000 working good and hard.

The final report? The JC-2000 has more bass than anything, ever. Period.

Now, it's not hifi warm, deep and detailled bass. But it's very THUDDING and BOOMING bass. I don't know where my memories of this being underpowered and empty sounding came from, but it's anything but. I really wanted to double check this as it has been haunting me over the last few weeks.

Now, the failure of the JC-2000 isn't the sound. No, it's the BOX itself.

This thing vibrates and carries on like you wouldn't believe. It really doesn't even matter how loud it is, the reverberation just takes control.
This is what I must've originally heard that made me fall out of love with her a bit.
I always wanted to fill her with dyna-mat or something, but never found any when I had enough money to make it happen.

I really want to apoligise to the brotherhood for discounting this ridiculously impressive box. It SHOULD be in everyone's needs list as it really does
obliterate most everything else with it's low end power. Yes, it's cheaply made and the tape mechs aren't marvellous but as a ghettoblaster, not a portable
hifi, this is really the canine's gonads.

Haha, the extra two fake tweeters wouldn't help enamour her with you either then I imagine, Norm.

Thanks for the revision, Glue!

I always figured that the JC-2000 should be able to out-thump every box out there for obvious reasons (10" woofers? HELLLLOOOOO!!! ;-) ) Damn shame you've basically agreed with everybody who've owned one of those about the case not being strong enough to handle those 10's. :-/ Still, having more bass and being louder are 2 different things... That said, is the JC-2000 louder than the J-1?

i love the looks of the jc-2000 if i had it i would be happy also ,, the lasonic 920 series especialy the t series some had real tweeters and some had fake, i was surprized when i tore one open just to find fake ones in there,, but the good side is that if you have a pair that can fit than your safe by the bell

Criminy! I very rarely put any of my radio's above 60% volume as I'm fearful they'll blow up.

Judging from the scales, I'd say the M90, C-100 and J-1 would beat the JC-2000 in actual volume.
But it's for someone far braver than I to open both of them up to 100% at the same time, I don't want to be responsible for the end of the world.

I very rarely go beyond "6" with any of my boxes  , and that's only for a few seconds. Good to know that if the J-1 can't out-bass the JC-2000, it can, at the very least, out-scream it! :-D

I have dynamat waiting to go into mine when it is finally 100% ready for that kind of sound...... Threads like this make me cry because I have not heard my Dynasty boom yet  :'-(

In the world of REALLY BIG portable radios, it's a drag that any of them don't handle the power one would hope from them.

But with plastic cases, free air speakers, no proper porting, bass and tweeters in the same air space....things that we know today are all No No's! All the things we know today would help these machines so much. It's a real drag that these proceeded all of today's modern research.

Having a really big radio that doesn't live up to the expectations is kind of like having a Pit Bull that runs from cats!

BUT....It's one of those things I still can't seem to walk away from. Much like a 1982 Corvette. You know it's slow, you know the plastic interior is falling out of it and even without any power it still gets crappy gas mileage....But it's still a VETTE!

And I'd still own one!

BRING ON THE BIG BOXES!

Great looking box but the rattling of the cabinet will force you to lower that bass slider right down to 0 the louder you make it.
I think they made it with a lighter grade plastic to keep the weight down due to the size of the box.

Great thread and box. I would just like to say when i had one of these it never rattled EVEN on flat out, i think the majority of boxes rattle because they have been apart so many times. BTW sombody was asking how loud the elta is, ITS easily as loud as a standard m90 as i had them both on flat out, it has to be done :-D
