Since i started collecting boomboxes (around 10 years ago) my taste in boomboxes changed. I got rid of a lot and kept only a few - also i stopped collecting at some point. I'm back in the game since last year. Throughout all this time, there was one machine that i thought i would never own. prices skyrocked and i - till today - don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of cash that could be used better elsewhere. You may have a slight idea by now of which particular box im talking.

Last month, after 10 years (more or less) i got my first JVC M90.

It had a rough life as a kitchen-radio. there was a thick crust of frying oil which may have protected the surface beneath

Here she is after a first rough cleaning:

she still needs a second soft cleaning - but until now im bamboozled by its looks. It has those blue-ish Speakers which i always found way more appealing. The sound is crazy - does not beat my Sony FH-909R, but is among my favourite portables.

It is missing the top of the left antenna - if anyone got an idea of how to repair this or find a fitting replacement (doesn't need to be an original part) - hit me up.

finally i'm a member of the famous M90 Owners Club

Man, I think you are right. Having that radio stashed away in the kitchen might have gotten it dirty but also kept it from getting any big battle scars! Nice save. Have any before pictures?

It looks pretty good to me Timecop. Very tidy.
I have a Panasonic RS-4360 That was absolutely caked in kitchen grease and it was horrible cleaning it but ultimately might have preserved it to a degree.

Awesome still my favorite looking /sounding boombox.
Its just bad ass on every level.
I know there's better sounding boxes and even better looking but to me she's still #1.

It looks great! Welcome to the M90 Royal Club (RC M90)! :-D

The paint on that M90 is way before they came up with better paints for plastic substrates. It has very weak chemical resistance properties. Light soap water used to discolor the paint. I would leave it as it is without much cleaning on the painted surface, especially the are with the lettering. The rest of the area can be professionally repainted if needed.

Good for you!
It looks very nice.
I'm nine years in - I guess I should start saving money for my first M90 ;)

Congrats on the score. This is certainly the top dawg that has eluded my collection. I still have hope that one day the right deal will come my way.

She's a fine example for sure
