I needed to get nice and far from the city. So I headed for the "wilderness" of Maine
It was a pretty special trip because one of my cousins, whom I had not seen in 3 years, was going. And my 85 year old Nana made the trip to the family "compound" affectionately referred to as "The Tiki Bar."
(Bear with me. There is a boombox involved.)
A couple of months ago, member LLopez was kind enough to hook me up with a Sanyo M9990 for a very fair price.
This is a special box because this was the make and model of my grandfather's original box that he carried to work with him every day from 1980, until he passed away in 1992.
One of my first memories is sitting on the cellar stairs in Newton, MA, singing Christmas carols with my cousins into a pair of mics, recorded onto the M9990.
My Nana still has this tape from 1984.
When everybody saw it, they were blown away, because my grandfather's original M9990 burned in a fire in the garage in 1994.
(There's my Dad, on the yellow canoe, with his wife.)
...And, once I put it down on the bar, there it sayed for the last two days, serving it's purpose, willfully, and well.
...And, of course, late night.
...So, yeah, I like my Sanyo M9990.
And we all had a much deserved awesome weekend.
