The point made, by THE LEGEND (in his own mind), about the point made by Reli, is a valid one, (but only in his own mind). :-D

You never know why someone is selling....

Maybe you don't really want to sell your M90, but would if you could get a certain very high price. The box is worth more to you than current market price, but would sell it if someone offered you a dramatically higher-than-market price. Because some people think you are being greedy to ask that price in a BIN, you decide to not even bother offering it when maybe there are some willing to pay that price. So to avoid looking like a jerk/byotch, you decide to not even list it. I think that is sometimes the scenario.

So, in the end, if someone is willing to pay the price, it has nothing to do with greed. It has more to do with either ignorance of the current market or their box is worth more to them than current market prices.

It is super frustrating to get priced out of the market when you are honestly not a cheap-ass, though. I get that. For a while I wondered if I would ever get my hands on an M70. Now only one year later, I have three. Needless to say, although I thought there was NO WAY IN HELL I'd ever have a M90, after getting my meathooks on a discolite, and my experience with the old M70s, I no longer worry about it.

:-D I beleave greedy is when the actual shipping cost is $40 and the seller is charging $75 to make $ out of shipping, I ran to a few of those sellers, I for once I always charge the shipping cost only and not the packing materials and always refund the diference.
Making $ wether is through a raffle, Setting up a buy it now bin, a reserve price means that is what the seller is willing to let it go for and what value of the box is to the seller wether is to pay any other bills like a college tuition, A mortgage, Getting that car fix, Going on a trip, Or the box is a personally favorite and holds a special sentimental value to the seller. Just my opinion fellas :-D don't hate I have only but love for ya. :-D

Greed is when someone goes to a flea or garage sale whatever and buys a box eg 777/m90 ect for $20,then puts it on ebay with a buy it now of a $1000,
a non greedy person would put it on at a start price of $29,or even $49 and let it find its own place in the market, fair to himself because he's made a few bucks, and fair to the buyers too..

Not trying to flame you but I completely disagree. Just my opinion. This is NOT something that would happen unless the seller had no idea what he was dealing with. U buy a diamond ring for $5 thats worth $30,000. Your going to put it on ebay for $29 starting bid? You find a mint classic car in a garage and the old farmer sells it to you for $100 just to get it out of his barn. You are going to list it on ebay for $500? I think not. lol It would be nice if the world was so kind and generous but its not realistic.

We are ALL greedy.

In fact here's a good example. If EVERYONE wasn't greedy why do I see so many auctions ended early due to buy it now offers. The BUYER in this case is not trying to do the seller a favor. They are trying to quickly grab the item at a price that they think the seller might go for while knowing most likely if the auction ran its course the item would end up selling for MORE than what the buy it now offer was.

Ill say it again, we are ALL greedy.

Dont fool yourself folks.

Any by the way, Happy Holidays!!!! :-)

Actually I would start an M90 at 99 cents.

Why not? There are so many people looking for an M90, so they'll see it and bid it up to a nice price.

The higher your starting price, the more money you're giving away to Ebay, because the fees are higher.

The only time I ever start at higher than 99 cents is if it's a rare box with an unusual brand name that nobody's heard of.

Anyone who goes to Antique shops or watches shows like American Pickers knows you buy low and sell high. The knowledge of what is worth money is what pays the bills for many folks.

Thank you Reli, that was the point i was trying to make, all of the "Most Wanted" Boomboxes you could buy for $20 and put them on ebay and start it at 10cents and you still you would never have to worry !! it would take a complete miricle for it to end at a low price..But i do get your point Bashingu, and i understand what you are saying,i agree we are all greedy and selfish, even as a buyer, everybody maybe all friends on here but in the boombox wild its hard out there,it becomes every collector/scrounger/vulture for himself

what is greedy ? i think it would be considered greed when you must have something like food or housing etc.
yet for a boombox i say whatever can be greedy or not.

what i hate about buying boomboxes is that most sellers lie about the boomboxes they sell
or have no idea about the working nature of the unit they have, like those who buy
just to sell.

wouldn't we all rather be told the truth about a box regardless of price than be told lies about it
and then the price goes thru the roof at auction and you find out when you get it that the seller
was lying and there is little recourse for a boombox you pay too much for.

it took me 3 tries to get my super awsome M80 and each try was atleast $200 + shipping and
had to grind my teeth over how it would be packed just to find out that the tape deck dosen't work
or other issues not mentioned ! Thank my stars the boombox i had when i was 15 and that i
just simply HAD to have again wasn't an m70 or m90 !!!! whew !

sometimes sellers even honest ones do not know the fair price or what a buyer thinks is a fair
price to ask for a boombox or any item really without checking past sales / auctions.

IF a boombox sells for $300 described as the tape deck NOT working
and a seller has the same boombox that DOES work and overall is
in similar though not the same condition, how much should they ask ?
more ? less or the same ?
or maybe they should put a high enough price on it not to give it away
and then let buyers make offers / let the serious buyer decide a fair price.

okay i am rambling now ya'll
i guess i can say "Greed is in the eye of the beholder" ehhh?

Have a Boomin' Day !!!!!
ANALOG RULES !
