So last Friday, I spot an new ad on Kijiji for a 42" plasma tv for FREE! It was behind their garage in the lane, 1st come . . . . Seeing it was only a few blocks away I dropped everything (didn't even shut off my tv or lights, lol) and bolted. Ad said picture worked, but sound was fubarred. That didn't matter having a sound system to hook up to.
Well, I got it! A really heavy farker, (I think Pioneer knock off) but has an HDMI input so not that old. Hurt my old back putting it in car and got it to my daughters place, dragged it downstairs, hooked 'er up, and Voila, bugger works perfect, sound and all! She was just at Costco the week before and was gonna dump $600 on a new one. SUWEEET.
But hold on, I go home on Saturday from a hot bastard grind of a day, turn on my TV, and 2 mins later, . . . Poof ! she shuts down! WTF ? ? ?
TOTL Panasonic Viera Plasma (I love this TV) bought at FutureShop up here (Best Buy offshoot) with extended warranty (I know, don't buy that, blah blah blah), but thank god as it has been just over 3 years and my TV's see a ton o' use. Way more than normal.
Now, FutureShop no longer exists so I think I am farked or at best expecting the big runaround, but I find that Best Buy will honor warranty. Well 8 calls to different #'s here and the States, I finally get told I have to wait till Monday as the Canadian branch isn't open weekends, :annoyed:
Fast forward to today and 4 unanswered calls and a half hour of cell time later, I gave up and went to the web. Got a 1-800 # and called, I actually got thru to a HUMAN in 20 seconds or so. I know, no way, right?
Well within an hour my broken unit was picked up and in a van off to the tech.
They will call me tomorrow with some news, good or bad, buy at least I know I am covered for all repairs and/or equivalent current model product replacement without any cash outlay at this time. Oh, except for another bottle of Aleve!
Don't know what I'll end up with yet, but my daughter got a new(ish) TV!
Still not 100% confident on warranty, but that's what I paid for, we'll see.
Will update.
