So last Friday, I spot an new ad on Kijiji for a 42" plasma tv for FREE! It was behind their garage in the lane, 1st come . . . . Seeing it was only a few blocks away I dropped everything (didn't even shut off my tv or lights, lol) and bolted. Ad said picture worked, but sound was fubarred. That didn't matter having a sound system to hook up to.

Well, I got it! A really heavy farker, (I think Pioneer knock off) but has an HDMI input so not that old. Hurt my old back putting it in car and got it to my daughters place, dragged it downstairs, hooked 'er up, and Voila, bugger works perfect, sound and all! She was just at Costco the week before and was gonna dump $600 on a new one. SUWEEET.

But hold on, I go home on Saturday from a hot bastard grind of a day, turn on my TV, and 2 mins later, . . . Poof ! she shuts down! WTF ? ? ?

TOTL Panasonic Viera Plasma (I love this TV) bought at FutureShop up here (Best Buy offshoot) with extended warranty (I know, don't buy that, blah blah blah), but thank god as it has been just over 3 years and my TV's see a ton o' use. Way more than normal.

Now, FutureShop no longer exists so I think I am farked or at best expecting the big runaround, but I find that Best Buy will honor warranty. Well 8 calls to different #'s here and the States, I finally get told I have to wait till Monday as the Canadian branch isn't open weekends, :annoyed:

Fast forward to today and 4 unanswered calls and a half hour of cell time later, I gave up and went to the web. Got a 1-800 # and called, I actually got thru to a HUMAN in 20 seconds or so. I know, no way, right?

Well within an hour my broken unit was picked up and in a van off to the tech. They will call me tomorrow with some news, good or bad, buy at least I know I am covered for all repairs and/or equivalent current model product replacement without any cash outlay at this time. Oh, except for another bottle of Aleve! :-/

Don't know what I'll end up with yet, but my daughter got a new(ish) TV!

Still not 100% confident on warranty, but that's what I paid for, we'll see.

Will update.

Fingers crossed for you matey, I hope you get a good outcome on this. I have been f'd by warranty a few times but i have also have them come good for me. I hoping the latter is true for you to.

Hey, that's a nice TV though ! Had the same one in a swivel console until about 8 years ago and it was still ticking !

My temp replacement from daughter is a 29 inch Philips tuber that I had to haul out of her basement and down to mine, thus the Aleve requirement! Actually pic is near as good as any Low end flatscreen, but going bug-eyed from the curved picture :'-( . It's sitting a lot closer to me atm.

Thanks T.

Yeah, me too with good and bad. When I sold gear way back you got a 5 year warranty standard on almost ANYTHING and that just meant it would last 20 !

Still got the Z-28? Yeah they are certainly brighter, though I am still stuck on the Plasma for the depth of picture.. and the price of a better one these days, lol

I think this is what mine was. It had a swivel base and I actually saw a pair retrofitted with JBL components, Sweet spot tilted in for single listening pleasure and straight out for parties in the fellow's rec room.

Well Gents, GOOD NEWS ! :-D

Just had my TV Delivered and she is all fixed, up and running! Warranty paid off as the repair was $399.45.

I had to run back home in a hurry to my place as the shop called and they were in the area, and I was busy scoring a sweet Kenwood KD-2055 turntable w/ AT TC2000 cart (new stylus) and 130 LPS for $70.

Just a good day so far, but now off to work to sand out some drywall. :annoyed:

So yeah, GOOD Kharma on this one and I'll take the sanding in stride!

Some pics of the score (very eclectic collection)

Thank a bunch guys! Actually this is the 2nd of this exact turntable I found in 3 weeks ! Been on a real tear with the audio gear ( a few lower end boxes too) of late with a Marantz 6300 being the best of the year so far!

No stylus on the 1st one (Shure M95 variant) and this new one is missing the hinge clip on the dust cover, but new belts and stylus on way and should both be serviced/polished, and ready to go in a couple of weeks..

These are great starter (to keep tho) or project tables that never fail to impress on just looks alone.
