Man this is gonna rock so hard with all the chrome on there!
Are you keeping the brushed metal finish for all the dial/switch text?

Superb work!!

Rock On.

Thanks! Funny you ask about the faceplate, I was actually working on it tonight..
Got the remaining stickers off and the old paint drips cleaned up also..
My plan is to wetsand the faceplate with 800 grit, than seal it with satin or semi-gloss clear..image.jpg

Not disagreeing with what you are saying as we have had this discussion many times before elsewhere on the site. My statement was based on the speaker not being a radical change and my undersatnding of the Conions configuration. Going from 8 down to 4, or 6 to 2 is radical. It has been stated before that there is a given operating range for amp chips and the Conion's chips should be ok from 5.6 to 4.
What one can do, and I highly recommend, is to get into these boomers (if you feel you can) remove those heatsinks and get that old worn out heat transfer paste off the chip and heatsink. I recommend replacing with Ceramique 2 or well rated non conductive thermal transfer paste. I have found out more often than not, failure was due to loss of integrity with the paste and plain old poor contact between the heatsink and chip itself. A reset after 30 years never hurts. :-)
Thanks for doing that research on the amps Freddie! The Lasonic speakers were just an idea, but since I'm doing graff on the grilles the white might not be worth the effort.. I did re-black all the C-100 speakers last night, I think they will be a better background color for the artwork to show more..image.jpg

Also sanded, primed, and sprayed the grilles semi-gloss black..

You going matte clear on front too?
I did, the paints I used were all satin flavors.. I've learned from experience that satin and gloss react with each other, They've wrinkled up on me and lifted before..

Awesome James, you are truly talented! So glad you've decided graffiti much better choice for your skillz man. :dj-party:
Thanks Brent! This C-100 is my beater CONION that gets used while I'm painting, so I need it to "put out the vibe"..
It eats batteries for lunch, but I'm sure it's gonna get a lot of play this year..
I used it to rock the block last fall when I was gettin up on a mural..

Not checked out this topic for a while...OMG :w00t: :w00t: your boombox is totally of the hook.

It takes balls to customise a box like the Conion or M90 etc cos if it all goes wrong you may wreck a rare bird but you sir have pulled it off (so far  )
Good luck with the rest of the project, really cant wait to see it finished.

BTW, your picture above, the girl with the pink hair, insanely Brilliant. I would love that in my town

The finished product is going to be a thing of beauty. I am curious to see the result of re clearing the control panel.
I have often thought of doing the same but was concerned with sanding the print off.

Well, I think it has a clearcoat on it from the factory or really good screen print paint, because I cleaned the faceplate with lacquer thinner (which removes everything) and it didnt faze the letters at all! I rubbed really hard to get the old paint drips off, thinking I was going to take some letters off, but nope!

I think you also asked on the 1st page what I was going to do about the tuner lens.. Today I wetsanded it and polished it up nicely! No cracks in it either!image.jpgimage.jpg
