Just ordered the regular silver version for $629 and the case for $70. Can't wait.
I thought about getting the founders edition but I plan on actually using this thing a lot and I just feel like if I got the founders edition I would just want to keep it in the box.

Also does anyone know the frequency response specs for this speaker? I couldn't find anything listed in there specifications section. I have had a few small to mid size bumpboxxs in the past and I wasn't very impressed with the bass. Just some narrow upper bass kick no deep bass to speak of. I am hoping this can dig down to at least 40hz if not a bit lower. Dual 6.5 inch woofers tuned well should have no problem with that I would think.

Big Willy!!! ^^^^^^^^ nice!
I'm a $549 VIP $2 backer. I had the Founder's Edition submitted because I wanted the travel case that was offered to the VIP crew. I realized after that I could have just got my $549 box, and added the $70 case and pay for a extra battery because I need this to perform and travel. Saved a few bucks over the Founder's. Went back in and revised my order, no problems.

You mean $547 since you already paid $2, right?
One thing about the Founders Edition is it has a 5 year warranty instead of just 1.

Yes, buying the Founders Edition makes the $2 prelaunch obsolete. Many buyers gave that advantage away by buying the Founders Edition and the goodies don‘t seem useful to me except the bag. I am very happy with my $549 box plus $69 bag. Outstanding deal.

I asked several times in the group, finally Rob said they will disclose the specs on kickstarter launch. Well, that didn‘t happen …
Thats a bit concerning. If I turns out the low frequency extention is limited like nothing under 50hz im going to be a bit disappointed. I hope we find out before the payments process so I can cancel if need be. Also I hope they dont just give a generic 20hz - 20khz spec which which i see a lot but thats usually from cheaper chinese brands.

They haven't discussed the cassette deck specs much, so I'm not really expecting the tape playback to blow me away. We all know what this mech is like and Bumpboxx have said the BB-777 will outperform the We Are Rewind boombox. That'll be enough for me I think, that thing does decent recordings and sounds good.

Jumped in after the Kickstarter page was restored. I stared at the Founders edition for some time but I (and my Mastercard) settled on the VIP 549.00 model and carry bag. I'm pumped for this summer now!

I have to give credit to the BB=777 crew for it's communication leading up to and through the Kickstarter pains this morning. At every step, they kept everyone in the loop. Customer service is a dying art and they've done an exceptional job on the lines of communication thus far. It didn't go as smoothly as they hoped but they made the best of situations beyond their control.

I saw a video from Rob where he claimed the subs were making sound at 20 Hz. I'm not sure how he measured that or how clean it was, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Having heard the BB777 in person I can say the bass goes way lower than the GPO Brooklyn which only goes down to 60 and breaks up below that, according to the testing I did.

As for treble, it puts out plenty of that as well. I don't know how high it goes, but it's not difficult to hit 20,000. Even the GPO Brooklyn can do that.

The harder part is tuning the amp for a flat response, so it doesn't color the original source. Whoever tuned the Brooklyn didn't do a good job, because it has a nasty hole at around 600, and a couple of spikes at 125 and 2,000.

Imo if this can do decent bass down to 35-40hz imo that would be sufficient. Any deeper would just be a bonus.

To be fair super deep bass probably isn't a focus for this speaker. 35-75 hz is where most bass falls anyway. Tuning a ported speaker like the jbl 720 super deep is easy when you can fit a massive 5-6 inch bass port lol. I never get port chuffing. But a much smaller speaker with a more thin profile like the 777 would be much harder to tune deep with a smaller bass port while also preventing chuffing. This is why a majority of speakers this size or smaller have passive radiators. Much easier to tune.

The amount of music that has bass below 35hz and under drastically lowers. 26-29 hz is the deepest iv ever heard in a professional production music track. Only movies are going to hit lower.

I asked about the 20 Hz because of the fluttering and chuffing Alex mentioned, too. Rob said it was only to test the capabilities and longevity of the speaker.

I couldn't find any mentioning of frequency response data on any of the bumpboxx boxes on their website. These are no audiophile products so it makes sense in a way. This is true for the BB777 also but still it is a different story with a different target group so I hope they release their measurements at some point.

I doubt that I will be dissapointed by the bass output and overall sound of this machine but some data would help me relax on that issue.

Asked directly via mail, Luis confirmed that the tape deck has a permanent magnet erase head. Techmoan isn't going to like that :nonono:

I don't know where and when I read that they sent the cassette mechs to Japan to swap out the heads against better quality ones.

Also Rob stated in the group that the 'Japanese Sony mech' 'outperformed the we are rewind unit in all tests'.

Bumpboxx is more on the boombox side while We Are Rewind puts more attention towards cassette as a medium. WAR wanted to make a cassette player, bumpboxx wanted to make a big boombox.

I am so ready for the youtube teardowns. Will be an interesting watch.

I know I'll still love the unit, and I know they want to appeal to a wider market, based on nostalgia and good sound quality. The tapeheads like me probably weren't a major pirority. Having a proper electro magnetic erase head would have been the best way to go though. It'll primariliy be a playback machine for me, but the reviews won't be nice if they make **** recordings.

Within one year we have two products putting honest attention to cassette playback. Who would have thought 3 years ago? Even if the outcome isn't on 80ies standard – which only applied to a handful portable devices anyway – it's much better than what came out the last 15 or more years.

It's no news that boomboxes were never meant as your sole recording device, not even in the cassette heydays. This is true especially for tapeheads but for everybody else it is a good start into a new medium if the outcome is halfway decent. It's all win for us all if you ask me.

Exactly my thought as well. This won't travel well like a normal bumpboxx. Those are built with MDF and vinyl, can easily be tossed around and take a beating. The BB-777 will need much more protection to travel, so that's why the case is a necessity if you really want to get out and use this. Also, I don't want to be the guy to bring the tunes and have my battery prematurely end the party, so the extra battery will really be a treat.
