BB-B90

Those who are on FB likely already know this but, Bumpboxx is planning on taking the M90 project on! Not only that, but Rob tells me that the cassette deck WILL BE FULL LOGIC with touch controls! I literally fell over in my chair. HOLY COW!! I was going to pass on one and wait for them to do a C100 until I heard this. I am so happy about that. I hope there are enough people out there that feel the same that would want to buy one. It's obvioulsy going to raise the price but then again, the M90 was one of the most expensive boomboxes for a reason. It's main attraction was the quality of the deck. They didn't add any lights outside of a stereo and power LED. All the money and effort was put into sound quality, durability and that one of a kind cassette mechanism.

Just when I thought I couldn't get anymore excited about my BB-777 coming, I get this news.

I raised my opinions about this radio using a mechanical deck that might not have been appreciated by some. In my mind having a mechanical deck with push button keys would ruin the build. Not only in functionality but appearance. I get all of the business reasons why it might not make sense to build a higher end deck. Mainly with cost and being profitable to sell enough units to justify the expense and effort and so forth but, IMO, if you're going to do the KING, might as well do it right and it sounds like they are :-) We all know cassettes have surged in popularity lately but that ship will sail after a while. If there ever was a time to sell a boombox with a next level cassette mech in there, it's now.

Good for them. I think they are making the right move and they have my business as a result. This is going to make anyone who has been waiting for a M90 extremely happy!

The question is: Which of the 3 colors?

Champagne Gold: Interesting. Not sure what demographic they are going for? Might look sweet in person.
Graphite Silver: Not too bad. I only have 1 grey Boombox I think. Not really much Silver to be seen.
Stealth Black: Looks like it belongs. Feels right.

Soooo... Hmmm... I'll think on it. I have a Silver FE BB-777 coming some day (lol), Trying to think which color would go best sitting next to it.

It's great news and was the ovbious choice. I think we all knew this would be the 2nd choice (I presume the Conion will be 3rd) and the logic controls is a good choice, hopefully they can keep upping the quality with each model.
I'm not a fan of the gloss black (dust and fingerprints) or the champagne gold but I appreciate some will love them. For me it's the classic gray all the way.

My one gripe is the blue cones. I know some of the originals had blue cones but the vast majority are black. I'm still not sure on the origin of the blue cones, I've heard that it was down to the material changing colour over time, whilst some say it was a limited release, either way I still prefer the black.

I have knocked up a quick image to show a couple my own ideas to "improve" it (in my opinion). I think the display looks overblown and too large and a bit tacky looking. I don't like the bumpboxx logo being printed on, I would prefer the 3D metallic logo as featured on the BB777.

My biggest problem with the BB90 is how the hell I'm going to explain another "bluetooth" radio to my wife. I just hope I can get a wifi signal under the bridge I'll be living under.
My wife has already asked me why I need two of them (referring to the OG unit and the New).....all while picking out which pair of shoes she's going out in for the day.

Not sure if this will include a remote control but if it does I hope bumpboxx add a slot on the back or side to slide it into.

Ufff, so many varieties to chose from for pre-order, but all have those ugly blue speaker cones? That keeps me away from any pre-order for now. I've already got the M90 Mini in the Slick Rick version, so I'd like to have the big one just in a simple original look.

The blue speakers make it pop. Why have a gray boombox with gray speakers? There needs to be some contrast.

The blue cones are the original look which is what, I assume, they're goal is.

Are they not putting grilles over the woofers?

That's not actually true though is it? Just do a google image search for JVC M90 and 99% of the images are black speakers. I think the blue was a limited edition......or as some say, it was the cones changing colour because of material and environment effects. Even if there were some limited blue versions it was not the standard, the standard was black. All I want is the option of black, if people want blue that's fine but it would be nice to have a copy of the original so we need both.

I agree. Just have a look on the famous Beastie Boys cover with the M90.
For example:
Beastie Boys

The speakers were black, not blue.

The speakers were made of blue paper, you can go inside and see from the back. And JVC wouldn't make it blue only on the back and not the front. That wouldn't make sense. It was blue front and back. The only reason many of them look dark gray is because they added a urethane coating on the front side. And depending on the vendor supplying that coating, and its age and condition, it could appear blue or dark gray. M90s have been seen in both colors.

I've asked Bumpboxx and got an unexpected reply. At the moment they just offer the B90 with blue speakers as it's the ony ones they got for sure so far. :-O But they are aware that people might want "classic black" (yeah, that's what they wrote in the mail), too, and will try to offer that later, too.

Well, I'm an absolute simp for Bumpboxx because I've just put my deposit down for one, my 777 hasn't even shipped yet!

I own 4 M90s and one is like new, trust me, most if not all were blue.
Only one of mine has all black speakers and that's because I replaced them.
Not only were the woofers blue but the tweeters were too.
Here's a thread of mine from a while back Click here.
I'm going to say the Beastie Boys cover M90 has blue cones.
With the grilles over them and some shade and distance, they'll look black.

It seems that the argument continues....... If they were all blue then they were obviously very dark blue, especially with the grilles and lighting conditions. I think the render of the BB90 has them far too bright but it's early days and they're probably just emphasising it for display. I have the new wave toys replica and the blue is much darker on that, in soft light it's almost black, which is where I would prefer the bumpboxx to go.
