Anyone out there running out of space?

This is getting silly. I've sold 26 boomboxes over the last year. And obviously bought a few :)

But I've still no space.

How do other collectors do it?

Also - can you name any of the boxes in this pile?

Yeah, I'm going to start selling some off.
I sold one a few weeks ago.
I'd like to get down to maybe 6 or so.

I have all but stopped with vintage purchases as I have aquired all the models I really wanted. Plus I have a rule. All boxes must work as intended so, I only purchase what I can excercise and maintain on a regualr basis. The BB-777 will probably be the last radio I buy.

Yeah, I have too many that need repairing. They take up too much time.
The BB-777 will be the most I've ever paid for a boombox, but I think it will be worth it.

I have too many really, but none that anyone would realistically call desirable. Most of mine are in a storage container, along with all the other 'crap' that I collect, so I really need to thin out and get rid of a lot of stuff.

I'm looking at getting down to 30. I have 2 of most of my favourites. Is it worth keeping 2?
I have the same problem. For example, I have a Telefunken HiFi Studio 1M as my daily driver. It would be a tragedy if it breaks down. These can get expensive and I can't just go and replace it. So every now and then when a box pops up for less than average on local marketplaces, I have to get it. Now I have 3 or 4 – I even lost track lol – non working 1Ms sitting around just in case I need parts. Same with other models I love. What makes the situation worse is that I haven't had time to work on boxes for quite a while now and the spare boxes keep stacking up ...

Also I make small events at local bars where I spread 9 or more boxes all over the location and let them play music from the same source over an FM transmitter. The idea is to make boomboxes visible and experienceable, most kids only know them from pictures or TV. But I exhibit only the boxes I don't like or which are worthless to me incase they get fumbled with or dropped. The result is that I don't WANT to sell the boxes I like and CAN'T sell the boxes I don't like. :-/

Yeah, that's way too many for me, especially if they're not all in good working order.
I have 4 right now that have been sitting for the last several years that I may never get to refurbishing which annoys me because they're pretty decent boxes and I overpaid for 2 of them (so stupid).

I've been reducing for years. I can't have anything that doesn't work sitting on a shelf, it just bugs me too much. I'm down about 10 cherished boxes now. I'm also looking to sell my VZ-2000 as I can't find the room, all fully restored and bluetooth added, tuner sometimes doesn't work and I'm not smart enough to fix it.

I have only 11 boomers. I have never had enough room for any more than that. I have although bought traded and sold most everything I have ever wanted to own. The BB777 will be the first one I have purchased in about 5 years. And may not be the last if Bumpboxx decides to release more retro modern boomboxes, which is likely to happen

The telefunken 1M is in my top 5 wanted boomboxes. I could probably afford one, but I would want a good one. Are they difficult to service?

Yes and no. You can pull off the front and the back like on some Sharpboxes. But they are tricky to open. You have to pull off all dials which are fixated with an Allen key. Also there is a Philips screw behind the tape keys. You can easily reach it when pressing the keys down but it took me awhile to find it. Then they are accessible from both sides which helps alot when looking for errors. Fixing those errors is a different story though. Getting parts out of the 'cage' to work on them can be a pain.

I can't tell you about locating an error on the boards. I am not good with electronics so I had to take it to a professional when something didn't work. I was lucky, he mostly accepted it more out of curiosity because the M1 has such a good reputation. But there are manuals out there, that's a plus if you have the skills yourself.

Two or three of them had broken keys on the tape deck. Meaning the keys are lined up on a metal bar. The keys are hard to press down in geneeral so they break of the bar. Something you won't see immediately, sometimes the keys don't seem to be lined up perfectly. I was able to glue it but still that would be something to look out for when looking for a box in good condition.
