Always some issue every time I go to use a box

I'd love to use some of my favourite boomboxes every day of the week, but that's just not my life anymore. I try to use my boxes as much as I can, and I love what I have, but convience usually wins out. I've got a massive library of CDs all ripped to FLAC and hosted on my NAS with Plexamp. 9 times out of 10, I'm listening on my PC while working through a lovely set of MA Silvers.

My main rant is around pulling out a boombox after not using for a few weeks and something has died. Fancied a listening session this afternoon with my Hitachi TRK-8190, fully restored last year, all working well last time I used it in early April. Popped a tape in and the right speaker was dead when playing cassettes, radio is fine. Auto stop has also decided to kick the bucket.

Get my M70 out to take over. Volume levels go really low when just touching the volume sliders and the volume and drops in and out, touching the bass slider also affects it. Right VU just stops reacting. Auto stop also stopped working.

Lasonic TRC-931 was brought in, and everything is working beautifully, not a single fault. Irony is that it probably feels the cheapest of the 3.

Have a great day everyone!

Listening to my professionally refurbed Nakamichi BX-300 tonight just to give it the business and work it out, which I do at least once a week. Decks tend to like this, many mechanical failures, though you stated it's only been a couple weeks.

Yes, I understand you very well, guys.
Time passes and boomboxes and other electronics get old, and we get old too...
I have 5-6 boomboxes that have not been repaired and still work well.
Every time I use them I pray that they work well and don't cause me any problems.
Inevitably, the time will come for their repair and what will I do then?
Will I be able to repair them myself? Will I find spare parts - hopefully just belts...
Or will I leave them as museum exhibits? Maybe only time will tell what will happen...

I feel your pain...

I also have a 42 year old car that gets used during the summer months each year. Every time I start it, it tells me something else needs attention!

Welcome to the world of 40-year-old technology.
Respect for these 40 year old boxes , still working with minor issues.
I am forgiving to a pot that makes some noise when moving for instance
Not like the crap that's produced these days

Yeah. I've been picking out boxes to sell over the past few months. Almost every one needed a tweak or two.

But! I have a Sony cfd k10 that I put away over a year ago. The power switch was faulty. I couldn't get it to stay on. Tried it last week and...

works fine ??

I know the feeling. I have had days like that. The BB-777 and my aiwa box are likely going to be the ones I start grabbing for dailys and going out. Especially if I want a cassette player.
