I was out for a leisurely bike ride with my family last Sunday When I suddenly lost my balance and hit the pavement pretty hard.
All 220 pounds of me landed primarily on my left shoulder which cracked my collar bone in two places. I also ended up with three broken ribs and lots of scrapes and bruises.
I am on the very slow road to recovery right now. Let me tell you, never take for granted being able to dress yourself in the morning. I am very thankful to have my loving family by my side to help me with everything. They have been there for me through this whole travesty.
I am going to a follow up visit with the orthopedic doctor on Tuesday to see how things are coming along, hopefully I won't run out of paid time before I am able to return to work.
I won't be able to lift any Boomboxes or much of anything heavy for a while so this really sucks the big one.
I am trying to keep my head up about this, but it has not been easy. In fact it's been quite depressing really.
Anyhow, sorry to drop this on you guys but I have to let my brothers know what's going on.

Nightmare...having cracked ribs a couple of times I know how painful and debilitating that on its own is so combined with everything else what a nightmare. Sorry to hear of your pain but hope you recover quickly with the support of your family

Sorry to hear that! Get well soon!

I've broken my right collar bone when I was 18 years old from a bike accident. I know the pain and discomfort keeping it in a brace for months. Nowadays I think they can fix it faster. The the bone fragments are first repositioned into their normal alignment, and then held in place with special screws and/or by attaching metal plates to the outer surface of the bone.

I don't ride my bike anymore because there are so many dumb ones texting and driving on the road.

20 years ago, we would have gotten right back up...shook it off and continued on our way  BUT now that we are getting older...it just isn't the same...we become much more fragile and have more pain and injuries :bang: ...you will pull through ;-)

Get well AND BE SMART ABOUT IT! I am pretty hardheaded and don't like to stay down. I got a lot, and I mean a LOT of physical damage when I was in the military and always wanted to push myself. Now every time it rains it hurts worse. I don't expect to see you in a sling come the meet...but I do expect that the wife and son will be assisting. ;-)

Man that sounds painful! Have never broken a rib but I have broken my clavicle and it is very painful.
Here's hoping for a clean and speedy recovery!
