Off the shelf queen - JVC 3090EN

Back in 2016 I bought this JVC 3090EN off Reli. It got some use at the start, but it always needed a refresh. A super clean survivor. I'm pretty certain it had never had the deck or amp board pulled. All the screws had that new box 'CRACK'. I still appreciate JVC color coding the screws, putting arrows on the back of the box so you know what screws need to come out and what can stay. I did go through the steps to power down the CRT, but this radio hadn't been plugged in in a few years, so there was no discharge.

All in, 4.5 hours to open, pull the deck and locate the only two belts, an hour and 20 minutes of that was going to a tech friend for a belt. Cleaned all the knobs and switch gear, back together and working first time around.

I think the hardest part was detaching the soft door opening linkage. What a PITA. Got it done.

I do have a small TV broadcast tester, so I can put something on the screen, but I need to look for it.

Fantastic work on a brilliant radio. I have the same box and had no idea it was this complicated to just into it! These pictures are invaluable to meat-fingered people like me. Documentation aside, I find pictures of teardowns worth a thousand words.

Great job!

A beautiful looking box…looks like a piece of scientific equipment

I always thought the same thing. It looks like the control panel for an ICBM launch system. JVC went out of their way to put as many switches on the front as they could. They even put a knob on the front for the beat cancel. They were really reaching.

I always take pictures along the way for myself. Just so I know the order to put it back together. I guess I could put together a thread on how to do this, but I didn't really take pictures of the actual re-belting of the deck. But it might help

Grab a Blonder Tongue Agile Modulator, they work great for TV transmissions. Pretty soon you'll be neck deep with Watchmans watching 80's music videos on YouTube.
