I don't think the issue with 2 decks is the connection between them... They have 2 RCA + 1 Din... But how to power both decks up... The power supply only has 1 powerplug for tape.

In the video description notes he says:

"Also, to be able to throw this on the shoulder more easily (just barely) I removed the Y-splitter connected RCA cables from the bottom deck and put them under the back cover. Once the JVC PC-5 XL arrives where it needs to be, you just plug those back in and/or also move the power connector from top deck to bottom to use the second bank of batteries inside the deck for double the battery operated time in the park."

So looks like batteries and Y cables. Could he have a 12V Y-splitter too?

I was going to do something like this with my two pc55s but unfortunately they both went down the s****** about the same time.

Just add a double deck or double everything? I don't think it would look that good. Can someone mock it up in photoshop? :-)

No matter how many times I see it it always amazes me how he can carry this thing I would be in traction anymore trying to carry this Beast around I mean anything has to weight 60 or 70 lb at least. Mind you this thing probably has 20 D cell batteries in it. Honestly that's exactly the kind of Boombox I always wish I could build. My back is so f***** up anymore there's no way I can even move it.

He did a weigh-in video. It's below. 55lbs apparently, with batteries. Seems manageable. This cute footed girl lifted it! This was funny in one of the replies: "Imagine Arnold is walking down the street. How does he look carrying a standard PC-5? How does he look carrying a PC-5 XL? :-) Exactly!"

Weight details from video notes:

"(Estimating 170 grams of each battery, 16 x D cells would come in at 6lbs (2.72kg) exactly. Therefore, add this to the 49lbs (22.2kg) PC-5 XL weight, and you have yourself this world's biggest JVC PC-5 XL with CD player and double deck and huge RB-95K speakers tipping the scale at 55lbs (25kg)"

a pc55 built like this jvc would be nuts homie as a pc55 is way more powerful than a pc5 lad

I don't know how true this is. First, let us get the speakers out of the way, both claim 75 Hz - 17,000 Hz specification checking the PC-5 and PC-55 service manuals. For sure these bigger speaker woofers take the bass down, but the difference between the PC-5 and PC-55 amp in frequency response on the low end, likely won't be noticed with whatever speakers are attached according to spec, so then we have to look at power spec. PC-55 comes on top, but then not on the Music Power spec. And 5db difference to the advantage of PC-5 on S/N is not nothing. I think we have a bit of a wash here. PC-55 with the larger woofers probably has an output advantage, but if both were listened to with the same speaker attached, say PC-55 speakers, I wonder what the result would be?

PC-5 from service manual
Circuitry: BTL-connected SEPP circuit
Power Output: Max 40W (20W+20W). (6Ω, AC), Music power 46W (23W + 23W) (6Ω, AC)
Frequency response: 30 Hz to 30,000 Hz (± 3db)
Signal-to-noise ratio: 80db (new IHF)

PC-55 from service manual
Circuitry: BTL-connected SEPP circuit
Power Output: Max 54W (27W+27W). (6Ω, AC), 21 W per channel at 10% THD
Frequency response: 20 Hz to 30,000 Hz (± 3db)
Signal-to-noise ratio: 75db (new IHF)

Its huge!!!
:w00t:

Michiel, can I ask you to do something and then give us your honest opinion? Can you hook up these RB-95K speakers to the RC-M90 in the background and give us feedback how the RC-M90 sounds with built-in speakers vs. these external speakers, along with sound quality?

For best comparison put them equal distance for centre points of the woofers so the RB-95K aren't further apart, as well as same distance from the wall...maybe as if they were standing side-by-side to ensure that stereo separation comparison is neutralized and it is only the sound quality that is compared. Beside sound quality, bass, clarity, any other qualities of sound you wish to highlight, could you please test the limits, as in, how high can you pump the volume on built-in speakers vs. RB-95K before distortion kicks in.

You think you could?

Just the sheer amount of Bass power the M90 has is impressive the only problem is the factory woofers don't like it too much that's why you got to cut the Bass Down but you can crank it all damn day long at Full Tilt and it sounds great but if you give it too much Bass it just seems like it wants to kill those woofers.

It would be nice to see how other speakers react to the m90 bass power when you can actually use it.

Yeah, absolutely! Michiel can maybe do it and tell us about it.

All we can do here is compare stats. There is a post about RC-M90 with woofer pics here: https://boomboxery.com/forum/threads/rc-m90jw-versus-rc-m90c.26067/

In both cases these 20cm woofers show 25w and 20w MAX, where as the RB-95K woofers are 40w MAX. I saw a picture of the magnet, maybe it's out there...but there is is no diameter in these photos. Maybe Michiel can answer that question of magnet size in each? But at this higher MAX power handling level, I'd expect the RB 95K to start distorting at higher volume levels and higher bass levels than the M90 built-in speakers.

i have changed the woofers in m90's many times while it is better it's not a game changer//////as for the pc5 unless those big woofers are 6 to 4 ohms which i have done on a pc5 it will sound better but just wont have the power to use them////i still say that large pc5 looks superb i would give jvc floyds missus for it lol

The pc5 XL is the best box I've seen so far I don't think you could have done any better from the factory even though most of the parts are Factory only the CD player is not standard but still the way he converted it to look like it's original is genius the thing is just badass.

When redbenjoe and his wife saw and heard my custom doomsday box they said it was the loudest boombox they had seen or heard.

The doomer started it for everyone lad foook the bumpbox,,,,,,i was lucky enough to see it......as for the pc5 you may remember i put some 3.2 ohm speakers in mine and it made it more comparable to the m90//////if this other one in this thread actually has 3,2 ohm speakers in it she will indeed be a beast along with the added tweeters installed

There's more of a selection of 4 inch speakers for the PC 5 than there is 5 inch speakers for the PC 55. And nowadays a 4 inch speaker can be pretty easy to find.

I can tell you this the pc55 is one of the most powerful boomboxes. Bar none. But it's like a Mustang you give it too much power too soon it'll just veer right off the road Into the Woods.

I have PC 55 woofers in the back of my jeep and they are hooked up to a bad ass rockford fosgate amplifier with a jvc head unit . these woofers can take power that would smoke the m90 or conion speakers. They are excellent full range woofers. These woofers are lukewarm at best for bass but they make up for it with sheer mid-range and high output and high power handling. I just wanted something that was loud and filled the gap and these m************ do that job perfectly. Jvc f***** up on another Perfect boombox just by not making the speakers bigger cuz that's exactly what they need bigger boxes not bigger woofers just bigger boxes. Never mind bigger woofers would have been better too as long as they were decent quality.
