Was thinking about the other collectors taste and way of collecting… All we have pretty good idea about the collection of others and what is important for them. What they like and why. Some have some personal style, some are collecting “the grail” way, some have no own opinion and collect what others have and so on and on. It would be interesting to hear opinions about other collectors. I think – there will be no part for “worst” collector or so. But who knows.
So I will start with some of my “most liked”.
Cannot start with other – my favorite collector on attitude, way of collecting/taste and how he is staking his boomers – yea you think the same - Rick Gluecifer . Really like how he is pickin the most unknown and groovy boomers, how he is putting the matching reels and other cassettes when he is displaying boomers. How the boomers are surrounded from all kind of cool comics/anime and other figures and so on….
Next ( there is no 1st , “second”, “king” and so on my opinion) will be of course Ira. Love how is accepting all easy. How there is no even slight note of jealousy when somebody else have a good catch. How he is always hanged loose and his boomers are everywhere – outside, by the pool, on the sand…… He have no taste for boomers - he have love for them.
Cant pass Monolitic too. Love his hunt for not known good boomers. His way of presenting them with damn good pictures always….
And of course im not writhing about lot others here. But my English suck , so will give you little bit less for laughing    .
In general I like collectors which have some personal idea about collecting and don’t give a F about the mainstream madness. Its really boring and non interesting to look same shelves whit same boomers bought like with shopping list. Don’t like how some “collectors” are buying boomers just because of the value too. That’s not a passion , that’s a sickness IMHO. Will not talk about few which are on the forum just with one really low idea – to show off what they snagged, to see the answers from other members and next post will be in “for sale” and link to ebay.
Im missing some collector who is trying to get all boomers from one series or to collect just one brand for example.
About personality in collecting – for example here is a dude who is posting for a while till now and don’t get much interest. He is collecting just early 90s boomers with CDs. Thats for example something I like. He don’t care about grail, value or so status….
Actually have no idea why im typing all this. Just some thought with sound.
It will be really interesting to see what others like and dont like.

I agree :agree:

Anyway...my favortie collector...hmmm. I agree that the coolest ones are the guys who don't care what others think but collect what they like and also USE it.
Keeping your collection only on the shelf is plain stupidity imo. There are some grails that must not be taken outside but M90s and C100s are around like sand on the beach. Blast them!!!!
I mean every second idiot carries their iShit for 800$ around but at the same time they are too afraid to carry an 800$ boomer? no freaking way....
So to name a few people here who seem nice to me: Glucifer, Blasterpunk, stormsven, monolithic, Fatdog, ViennaSound, JVCFloyd, kingrat2010, Zippy, fresh produce and many others I can't think of right now.
One thing the boombox scene does not need is arrogance or greed. I can't stand that some collectors try to rip off other collectors because they think they don't have a clue. All this "low ball" talk is getting boring. Mostly they are the same people who keep on complaining about the prices. So, are high prices only justified when you sell your own stuff?
I mean, there was one example where an M90 sold for a lot of money and everyone was cheering for the seller and a few weeks later, the price of another M90 was "insane" all of a sudden? :dunce:

Boombox collecting is a nice hobby but not more. After all it's only old radios :-D  .

Aww thanks, Tony! Very lovely words!
Lovely sentiments too, Max and Ira.

I'm just a slave to my passions and when they run deep it just becomes a part of me.

There are lots of collectors on here I admire and look up to, especially the rockers who already
had established collections before I started. These guys are still role models to me and only through
learning from them is how I found my own boombox-personality.

I still feel like a 'new collector' in their company and always feel theres still a lot to learn and discover.

Thank you to the mentors of boomboxery for your guidance, friendship and rockin' good times on here!
You guys know who you are, so I won't list them off just in case I forget one!!

Rock On.

I am compelled to reply:
First off, :agree: with everything I have read thus far.
I am a relatively "new collector," so I'm not sure it's my place to chime in, but here goes.
My favorite collector (no one in particular) is someone who collects what THEY love. I know a lot of people out there do not have the financial means to just start scooping up grails for trophy rights or profit, so I have to commend those that work their arses off to get their hands on a unit that they just feel they need to have because they love it. They don't have to explain themselves, because, even if it's a $3.00 thrift shop Yorx, they saw something in that box and had to get their hands on it. They don't have to explain themselves or make some federal case as to why they picked it up. They are happy to post a high-res pic to show it off, and we are all happy to "ooh" and "aah" over it.
My favorite collector knows every idiosyncracy of each of their boxes and is happy to share every technical, cosmetic, historical, and connotational aspect of each one. In other words, someone who collects them for the the simple love.
The collector that needs to chime in on every other tech post to help others out and give words of encouragement. The collector that comes across another box that they might not want, but know someone out there will love it and say, "Hey, I know 'So-And-So' has this unit you've had your eye on. Shoot them a PM." The collector whose "normal" friends say things like, "Why the Hell did you put this in your living room? - Wanna sell it?"
The answer is "no."

Sorry for the sermon. I have work tomorrow, so it's a quiet Friday night.
