Believe it... or not.

Here is the inquiry that I sent to JVC:

I have a question regarding the JVC RC-M90 boombox from the early 1980s, and I'm hoping there is someone who can, or is willing to, help me.

Were there any RC-M90 boomboxes ever manufactured with yellow ink for the "hot zone" in the analog VU meter and gray/black speakers?

Every VU meter I've seen on old JVC RC-M boomboxes used red ink for the "hot zone" and had blue speakers, but there are some folks stating that the yellow version was a factory option and is much rarer. I tend to believe that the red ink simply faded over 25+ years to it's yellow coloring.

Thank you for your time and help.

Regards,
Bobby Jenkins

And here is the response I finally received:

Dear Mr. Jenkins,

Thank you for contacting JVC Customer Care. My name is Veronica, your email care specialist. We value you as a JVC customer and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

After reviewing data on all the models, none seems to appear to have ever had the yellow ink for the hot zone. The models that we released were RC-M50, RC-M60, RC-M70, RC-M80, RC-M90, RC-M105. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know at customerrelations(at)jvc.com or by phone at 1-800-252-5722. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8AM to 8PM, Saturday 8AM to 5PM or Sunday 9AM to 4:00PM.

Sincerely,

Veronica H.

Credit where credit is due. It was the Mrs. Fatdog that said 'why don't you email JVC and ask them? They are still around and probably have records."

True enough, he did it, but it was my idea :-/

The doghouse settling disputes since 1997.

Oh come on already :-/

I stick to my point...show me one pic of an M90 from the 80s or an original JVC ad with a yellow-metered M90 and I am happy to believe you.

As far as of now the evidence is clear. Physical laws and a statement from JVC themselves!

Face it, the myth of yellow VUs on a M90 is

So it looks like the red is fading not just on the other electronic equipment brands. It happen to "mighty timeless grail" M90 too :-D . Looks like finally the physical laws are still present...... for now at least :-D
Some dudes looks like owe an apology for the rudeness to some young members.

Well, I am actually glad this all went down the way it did.
It revealed some of the real faces of some people here and I definitely learned a lot (not connected with any fading M90s).
