Oh I've had even easier then those, one small plate, 2 screws and one square belt, easy isn't even the word to describe it . Good luck on the Aiwa Chris. I've been thinking of getting one soon

Thanks man....It's actually going pretty good. There are some other aspects of the design that are pretty good. I will be doing a full rebuild thread on this box soon.

Yes I have done it before,and there is a super secret technique I devised.
It took me about 5 minutes and worked great.

There is a super secret way that involves a bit of pry bar..A.K.A. a flat blade screwdriver and dentist pick...key thing is, if you don't want to risk bending a bracket and have needless fluctuation on the flywheel/capstan pin...you'll do it just like the manual says.

Plus there's lots of contact leafs to look out for...

No bending brackets either....
You just need to know what your doing,like me.......

Technics SAC05L. Nightmare! Why, oh why did Matsushita make it so congested and build it like some gigantic rats' nest when their slightly smaller, Panasonic-branded boxes are a joy to work on, logically laid out and much more reliable in the first place?
I still love my 05L but when replacing the a/f output chips (hey, it's 30 years of age and I've only had to do them a few times, the first couple of repairs were under warranty), access to the serial offenders requires intimate knowledge of the Rubik's cube and a Borg cube with half a dozen small boards, all containing troublesome, edge-mounted connectors, that need to be peeled away to reach the centre of the beast. The outer few layers of PCBs are relatively easy to peel. Relatively in the way that Fred West was a relatively bad man. :annoyed:

But it's all a matter of scale and as someone who has replaced Mullard IF modules in the Roberts R707 of the late '60s/early '70s, any Japanese boombox is a piece of cake by comparison.

I'm not to keen on the Aiwa's either,like Chris said you have to take
almost the whole assembly out! I have the 770.
But like Scott and Jimmy said the Sanyo's are so tight-I've gotten to
all the belts on the 9990,and all but the bottom 2 on the 9994-still need
to order belts for one of my 9994.I have cleaned all pulleys and shafts
on my 9994 so I know I can handle it. BUT I have not fully attempted
the big bitch-The Sanyo M9998!! :thuYmbsdown:
That I will handle someday when I get very brave!!

Most Sony's,Sharp's,and JVC's are quite easy!!
Yeah Lasonics,a 5 year old could change those belts!!(931,975)!!

The worst I've encountered so far was the Hitachi TRK-8280. It took a ridiculous amount of digging just to reach the cassette mech.

The Toshibas I've opened up -- RT-S90, RT-983 -- have been relatively easy. They look pretty intimidating from the outside but they are quick to open up, are very logical and the components are easily swapped in and out.

I work on lots of Aiwas Chris,and the best Goo fighter I've found is Windex,the blue stuff with ammonia.
It dissolves that goo and leaves the surface clean.
Just be sure to do the cleanup where it won't get on the carpet anything you don't want ruined.....

I have tried lots of things, but I haven't tried Windex! Thanks for the advise

No kids and No dog....I'll be watching what I do, that stuff is nasty...and once something is stained...it's DONE

My Aiwa TPR 850 was fun to work on - But the sound out of these is incredible- If you havent heard one you'll be pleasantly surprised as well excellent build quality but yes a real B to work on!

The Sonys are the worst they are so temperamental , and the Pioneer SK 31 is another layered circuit board type if I remember correctly- the loaded deck is a nice feature but bringing one back to life after many years of non use can be a challenge but great when it works out !
