I just became a customer of one of my customers. I couldn't stop eyeing this thing while trimming out some skylights on a screen porch. I was about to leave and decided to go back up to the house to see if I could score thing. The guy was puzzled when I asked him if he was willing to part with his radio. He was even more confused when I offered him 20 bucks. He took the money and I parted with said radio.
This is my only means of aquisition. I just don't have "eBay money."

looks great --glad you went back in there
Upon further inspection, it seems the 438 year old leaky batteries in the tape player did a number on itself.

...and the tuner scale.

...All in good time. :-)

Good catch. The Goodwill in my town randomly has some boxes. I am slowly but surely falling in love with these things. Definitely worth collecting

So...after a thorough cleaning and repairs to the battery terminals, I think this box really came up. But I still have the battery damage problem. The battery housing on the tape player's battery housing is clad in aluminum, so the corosion ate the $=!+ out of the bottom of it (see previous pics). I'm thinking Bondo and some fresh paint. As for the tuner glass, I think I can clean it and touch it up with the right mix of modeling paint. Problem is, I have no idea how to remove it. :hmmm: I'm thinking heat and pateince. If any members out there have any ideas, send them my way. Thanx much.

Nice score for sure! You don't see too many of those models around. Well, at least I don't.

Maybe send a PM to 71spud for help on the window. He is Mr. JVC around here. ;-)

I keep saying I'm gonna give this thing "The Business," but it never happens.
...Some day.
Trust me - it looks better in the first photo than it does in real life, but it works great. The sound is what you'd expect.
I keep it on a low shelf, dimly lit.
That doesn't mean I don't love it.

So, I just noticed I never said anything about the deck not working on this thing.

It's been a rainy weekend and I had a little time to kill, so I pulled this thing off a shelf from behind a Samsung and a Panasonic where it's been collecting dust for a while.

It certainly was a PITA to re-belt, but it had another problem - a clutch! :annoyed: :bang:
I figured out that the retainer that holds the clutch assembly in place on the shaft was non-existent. It's the type of retainer that's basically a tiny, thin nylon(?) washer that sits in a groove on the shaft.

That's fixed, now - it works.

Anyway, I'll save the details of the repair (fabrication) for another thread. I just really wanted to post a pic because it's been a while.

Like I said: This little deck is just a PITA all around. I'm still thinking about the cosmetics.
