That's spot on Mark IMO...if that doesnt work nothing will...being nice always works best in my experience. At the end of the day it'll cost her nearly that to get it back then she's stuck with a box she can't sell. If I were her I'd refund it to protect my 100% rating as its only 11 quid and a good ratings worth more than that.

Good luck mate  Keep us updated :-)

No good, man. No good.
I sell a few vintage electronic items on eBay every year that I pick up at foreclosures and estate sales.
I ALWAYS double-box my items, with pro packing material and a nice label on the inside box. I did, however,
receive a message of complaint from a buyer in TN about a Wave Radio I sold that was too difficult to open. No joke.
Get inspired. Make that thing shine and scream! :breakdance:

UPDATE TIME!

Sellers reply,

Dear st24mark,

Hi there,

Thank you for your message, I expected the courier to do a much better job - I will refund but to be 100% sure, can I have a zoomed out picture of the entire boom box please,
Thanks Catherine

My reply plus more pictures, three snapped speaker posts plus some wood that was inside in a cross shape  and bits of casing.

Dear windypops44,

Hello Catherine here are the full pictures of the boombox as requested. I've also included the damage again after a little investigation. As you can see the speaker is bust up. Three screwposts which hold the speaker together have snapped plus re-enforcing material has come away inside. Also in the pictures are the pieces of the speaker casing that I found in the bubblewrap and speaker.

Regards, Mark

If you've still got all the bits then you're laughing....bit of epoxy and a bit of time and care and you'll improve it no end

Funny... After my very first sell ended with a damaged box (completely my fault), I am VERY meticulous about how I pack boxes and I also had one buyer complain that one of my sales was too difficult to open. So... I take that as a compliment!

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, Mark. I've been there... more than once. One of my first boomers, one that was shipped from Korea by a US serviceman, was simply laid in a pile of shredded paper inside the box. Needless to say, when I lifted it out of the box upon its arrival, it basically crumbled in my hands.

Catherine sounds like she genuinely wants to make things right, and I hope she does. The simple truth is, many non-collectors simply don't understand how fragile these units are, how rough shipping is, or how to pack delicate items (I guess, to the uninitiated, boomers appear too heavy and solid to be fragile).

Fortunately, eBay's buyer protection plan works, and photos like yours would be pretty convincing evidence of poor packing. Unlike my experience with the Korean boomer, you have a pretty ironclad eBay policy to back you up if Catherine doesn't.

Good luck!

Not all ebay sellers are bad...got a cheap Sharp QT27 yesterday, messaged seller with an issue with it and he gave me a full instant refund and allowed me to keep it, he even apologised for the trouble :-D
