i have just got one for £20 from a local flea market.so heres the mini review
looks........
this is a small unit folks, lets not forget that-kind of like a stretched gf 4646 and a little bit taller than a 4646,but you get the idea-but thats where the simalarities with that horrid little box end
its unusual "tuner at the bottom" makes for good presentation,as most tuners are kept towards the top,so for this reason it stands out in a positive way.its tuning knob is just underneath the tuner, and for some reason i prefer this location to the tuner knob been stuck on the side-makes the box look more purposeful,if you know what i mean.also on the bottom there are the volume knobs, and a bass and treble seperate control but no balance knob-this model is automatically balanced-how unusual is that?
basic switches up top are for function, dolby b (yes dolby b!) on and off, waveband settings and a couple more insignificant switches that i forget what they are right now as i dont have the box with me.
to sum up,slightly more unusual styling for me makes this a good looking box
sound.....
well, its not going to rock the party thats for sure.....the speakers are 12cm units so please dont expect mega volume and thumping bass, but that said, one can imagine it would have been adequate in its day considering its size with other units at the same price/size in comparison
build quality.....
gone are the days of built like a tank qualities of the seventies and earlier m class jvc's,but again this one was built when most boxes had gone from one piece to 3 piece and factories were putting all their effort into the 3 piece designs-but as an example of its kind its as well made as the average smaller machines from that period
so,the important sum up.....
an all round average kind of small box.....if your not wanting killer sound and eye popping looks,or your wanting a nice smaller box for your kitchen or work area, then please,go for this with my total backing-i dont regret paying twenty quid for this, and if you can get one at that price or below then youve cracked it guys-oh,and theres no line in luke,sorry-only inputs are for mics and headphones-but dont hold that against it,they arent all perfect are they folks?
