According to a Kiplinger's magazine article, the MSRP was $470 in 1982. That's equivalent to approximately $1,050 in 2010.

in Canada they were around 500-600, remember Canadian dollar was like .70 US dollars back then.

I seem to remember that you could get them for around $365 at the military exchanges overseas in 1981. And I remember how there was always talk that the AAFES price was a considerable discount versus buying one stateside...

The military had good pricing on pretty much all of the Japanese electronics brands back then...
