I really found it hard to pick ten tracks. I mean the 80s was pretty diverse in terms of musical selection. I just tried to pick the songs I was actually listening to back then. I have to say there is really a massive amount of excellent new music to be found in this era if you are willing to poke underneath the surface a bit. I mean none of the bands on my list were commonly known in Vancouver back in the day either.

"Stand or Fall" by The Fixx, or "Red Skies at Night" by The Fixx
"West End Girls" by Pet Shop Boys
"Major Tom" by Peter Shilling
"Girl U Want" by Devo
"Stand and Deliver" by Adam and the Ants
"Photograph" by Def Leppard
"The Roof Is On Fire" by Grandmaster Flash?
"Jam On It" by Nucleus
"Sausalito Summernight" by Diesel
"Fantasy" by Aldo Nova

Not in any particular order, but just a few that stick in my mind from when I was in jr. high to high school from 1979 to 1986.

Good list but I think psycho killer is a 70s track.....

Good topic, good replies. :)

Lots of great 80s music to pick from. I always had trouble with the 90s music, it just lost something. The 80s music was the party, and the 90s music was the melodramatic hangover.

short list:
1. Judas Priest "Some heads are gonna roll"
2. A-ha "Take on me" (some hate the video but I find it ok)
3. Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime"
(I miss the 80s concept albums. Seems to be a dying art, although power metal still uses it, in Sweden, Norway, etc)
4. Journey , Frontiers: "Separate ways"
