We Are Rewind Boombox!

Hi, saw this on Reddit and it looks interesting. I didn't like the We Are Rewind portable cassette player mainly due to the performance of the mech but it was very well built. Thoughts?

Interesting. It's not on their website yet. Hope it's more than just a re-brand of an existing model.

I can appreciate them wanting to be a part of reviving the cassette however, one of the things that concerns me about this "boombox" is that it doesn't seem to have an AM/FM radio built into it. At least not from what I can see. If that's true, then by definition IMO, it's not a boombox. It's a Bluetooth speaker. JBL does the same thing with their BT speaker. They call it a boombox, but no built in radio.

I can tell you first hand how obnoxious it is to constantly have to keep a cell phone nearby to enjoy your radio. Sometimes you just want a free non-streaming experience to relax and enjoy.

You're not wrong. No radio is a bit of a deal breaker for me.

I agree. At least it looks better than a Bumpboxx.

Yeah, it seems like putting effort into chassis design elements has gone by the wayside - all those little grooves and ridges give a box character and make it more interesting to look at for no increase in cost.

Just like that Sharp RD-688, which I really like the look but has no radio. Looks every bit a boombox but a deal breaker hence I never bothered pursuing acquiring one. For all practical purposes, it’s just a portable cassette recorder to me.

Eh I disagree, I personally don't feel there is much music on the radio these days that makes much sense to listen to on a vintage style boombox. Its the Cassette player that makes it a boombox for me. I honestly hate the way the We Are Rewind box looks, but for me at least its got a tape deck. To each their own though. Maybe if they put a fake radio dial on it that would be cool. I do think the radio adds to the look for sure, just not what would use for listening.

I like this one far more than that hideous cheap made AIWA / MEDION / LEOTEC etc. thing. It looks more like a boombox, it has VU meters, showing that they try to give people what they want, and it at least looks like it will sound better that the AIWA player. I am very curious what it will cost and how it will sound.

They all use the same cheap and nasty Tamashi cassette deck though, as nobody makes them anymore. I'm happy to be corrected if this doesn't have the Tamashi in it though!

Yep, actually it's always just some new shiny wrap about the same well-known crap. I don't know why there's always so much excitement. At the end it's just a matter of which design you like to look at while better not using the device.

In regards to the mech. It is what it is. It's the only mech available and can be improved upon slightly. The W+F of the Fiio CP13 is better than a lot of Walkmans and personal cassette players that were made back in the 80s & 90s.

If this boombox is under 0.2% wow and flutter, I'll be happy enough. I like the design and all metal body. We'll see. I'm planning on buying one for testing anyway.

On their website they say "This boombox features a top-of-the-line cassette deck mechanism"......Really? Top of what line? Top of what's available today? That's not saying much.
