Hi Fellow Boombox enthusiasts, I recently bought a Sharp VZ 2000. The guy touted it as a laser disc player in the charity shop.

I have opened it up a the record player does not work at all. The belts look okay but the PCB is looking like some of the components have gone. Any guidance on next steps. Presumably clean up with isopropyl and then trying to isolate the culprit. The black mark seems to point towards the culprit.

Thanks!

My guess is repair attempt at cracked pcb. I assume blob is hard glue. Here is a picture of my vz’s board.

That makes sense. Holding up to light is definitely cracked. Seems to be a common issue when removing the player to change the belt.

Thanks for that, much appreciated!

In most cases one can use jump wires and fix the cracks on the board.
I've done that!

Needs lots of patience..and do it carefully one lead at a time.
Trace the broken line to the nearest solder point and start connecting jump wires.

Thanks Royce. I am going to clean the rest of the inside, reassemble and see where I am at. I think the electrics might be beyond me and might need to call in a favour from a friend. Potential to cause more problems than fix.
