So went to one of my favourite thrift shops today and bought these awesome Realistic TRC-25A walkie talkies!, They are from around 1973 or so, cost $9.99 I spend an hour or so the other afternoon cleaning them up and then I had to change both 9volt connection terminals as one was broken and the other one broke as soon as I tried to unplug the battery, Found some 9volt connectors in some old clocks I had laying around and cleaned the switches and these baby's work awesome now!

You got the 1971 model. I guess the leather cases were a luxury option. I couldn't find them in the catalog.

1971! wow, I think they stopped making that particular model in 1975, The leather cases are in awesome condition, The talkies themselves could use a little love and paint, But all it took was some switch cleanings and new 9V battery terminals and they now work great! I can't wait to take them out to a park for some fun and to get some laughs!

WOW, I totally remember these. My best friends as a kid (2 brothers) had these. They had pretty good range for back in the day. We used to ply hide and seek with them.

Thanks for bringing back memories

Wow, that is a lot of dough, and thats not even accounting for the fact that I'm in Canada so it would be even more money, because what was the US Dollar worth in 1971 vs the Canadian dollar! shudders to think, Likely why they are still kicking around after 40+ years, They have printed embossed name tags stuck to them with the words (M Jury) and I think (W Jury) wonder who they were! These do work very well, They were quite easy to get up and running again, although they have encouraged me to get a new soldering iron as my cheap ebay junkie thing is truly terrible. I think I'm gonna get a 60watt Weller iron because I here that lead free solder they have now kinda sucks...

If you do any testing, I would like to know how far away you can get and still get a signal through.

Wow I totally have two of this exact model. I'll have to dig them out and take a picture. I had to put new battery connectors on mine, and deoxit the switches

Of course, I've had some classic entertainment with my aunt and my 18 year old cousin Adam with these walkie talkies, Drove down to Antigonish County/Arisaig in Nova Scotia for my week off haha

I damn near bought a set of walkies today. No box, but in the styrofoam, instructions, straps, batteries. in pristeen condition. But he wanted $30 for them. He came down to $25, but I was thinking $10, $15 max. I have no idea what I would ever use them for. Yet another thing the cell phone has killed.

Kind of regret it now :-/
