Back in the day....when I was a long haired Skate Punk / Thrasher in the San Fernando Valley (suburb of Los Angeles), 82'-86' I never cared about where and when it was "Cool" to use my volume knob.

I was an indiscriminate "VOLUME CRIMINAL". I drowned out people while they yelled at me face to face to turn it down....F#CK' TH%M

There is no doubt it was A-Holes like me that led to city ordinances :chris920:

My blaster buddies were anyone that would pitch in for batteries, and there were very few of them. :annoyed: :weed:

and while Van Halen, AC/DC, Triumph and Rush were my closest friends, sometimes the losers of volume battles on MY street corner introduced me to new bands like Motley Crue, Ratt & Quiet Riot that were the local bands just coming up just a few miles away in Hollywood. I still have all there demo tapes.

I put allot of mileage on my radio and I MEAN I WALKED MILES with my radio........BUT......respect was always offered up, even if you were across the street from me and the radio's were turned off. Some times I was returning home with dead batteries and hoping I wasn't going to run into a rival and have to bow down. FU Scott where ever you are :nugget: :catfight:

But, if I saw a blaster in your hand, it didn't matter if I saw you at lunch time in the food court and you had a Run DMC shirt on, a simple nod or a high five while passing by meant we were the "OUTCAST'S UNITED".

It also meant if I saw you at a party or in a parking lot, I would push my brand new Duracell's, my mix tape and my volume WAY past ten and leave with your head on a platter.....if I could. :evilmad:

Back in the day....I didn't give a shiat....GOOD TIMES!  :-D  Yep, good times in deed :drunk: :beer2: :weed:  :chris920:

But....maybe that was just a West Coast thing.... :hmmm: ;-)

How did you guys do it?

"my sheeyats the joint I roast! From the East Coast to the West Coast, to your breakfast toast..." :breakdance:

Great story Chris...  While all this was going on, I was in the Midwest going doo-doo in my diaper... :-/

But, some of my early memories were watching Mtv and seeing videos like "Hot for Teacher" :surf:

You can add my old Butt to that crusty crowd too. I was blasting my radios on the school bus to play other other teams in Football, Basketball & Track meets. I was the DJ, everyone brought their best tapes to add to the genre selection, We rocked Queen,Ozzy,DIO, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Foreigner,Run DMC, GrandMaster Flash, UTFO, Boogie Down Productions, etc, whatever. We really respected ALL music and blared it equally. Everyone pitched in with batteries. No doubt, the BoomBox brought Us together and motivated us.

Damn the only difference between the States and here in Europe looks just that we played mostly disco, break and acid... o yea - and Krafwerk which were the future of music for our taste back than. The boomers were everywhere. At school, when hiding to have a smoke between classes, on the way back home, than fresh batteries and again out. We use to have some problems from old people. But wired thing abut our ex commi countries - cops didnt give a f@ck about our music. At least here in Bulgaria. Sometimes they just made us to turn the boomers a little bit down ,,, till the next corner and "pop up the volume " :breakdance: . Damn some cardboard boxes have stories to tell  . Not just using em for dancing. Some times for making love too

That's great to hear  In a way, back in the 80's we were all doing the same thing in different places  Kind of a shame when you think about the cold war and how we were told about our differences and not our similarities

Not sure if I ever made love on cardboard, but I've done it in the dirt

C100..Lol... I was thinking my VZ2000
:-)

I remember instead of buying Duracell or Energizer batteries... and I liked Energizer better... I bought a bunch of rechargeable batteries and a couple chargers. I would get about 4-5 hrs worth of tunes in a day, but I had to listen to Radio more because tapes only lasted an hour or so :-(

I never played with rechargeable batteries back in the day. But I do remember always pulling out my cord and asking to plug in where ever I went. I would walk around on batteries and when I got to a friends house, straight to an outlet. That was one thing that was so cool about the Lasonic, you had a cord in the back, ready to go.

Then, pack up the cord and hit the streets. That really helped prolong the life of a set of batteries....

Man, there was nothing worse than not having batteries. I remember birthdays where I got 2 pairs of pants, 2 shirts and 8 D cells  :cake:

Man, I never had the swagger to carry outside as a kid......I always had self-confidence issues, so I actually BELIEVED people when they told me my musical choices sucked. Like whenever I played Def Leppard, Ratt, Accept, Poison, Autograph, Winger, etc. they would dismiss it as "hair metal / fake metal"........And whenever I would listen to Run DMC or Beastie Boys they would say "WTF is a white boy like you listening to that for" (never mind that Beastie Boys were white)......

Dumbass midwestern rednecks....

I thought so too.........but apparently it wasn't "real metal" unless it was Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath or early Metallica....

Totally Man, those bands tore it up and since I'm among family, even WINGER had some rocken stuff

I know what you mean though, I felt self conscience while playing Run DMC because I always thought people would say "What is that long haired white kid playing that for?"

But in the end, volume prevailed....and after a :weed: and :beer2: I just listened to what I loved! :smooch:
