Well, the rattling is the antenna inside the boombox. It's very dirty, has a few paint specks that can be removed, and a lot of carbon scoring. Apparently, it has seen a lot of action. (SWANH reference)
Let this be a lesson on "How Not to Pack a Boombox Unless You Are a Complete F'n Idiot".
Box is beat all to crap. Not a good sign.
Well, maybe it's not as bad as it seems...
Oh, my God. Is that f**king paper?
Yep, f**king paper. I feel the onset of nausea. I wonder what sort of face of death awaits me underneath.
Wow. Barely one layer of tiny bubble wrap. What you can't see is that it barely overlapped in the back.
Let's see what kind of padding was on the bottom. That's right, more f**king paper. What P.O.S. really thinks that paper makes good packing material for a 20 pound boombox?!?!?
Maybe there was some foam or something underneath the paper. Nope. F**k me.
Aside from the antenna being inside the boombox, it appears to have miraculously survived its death sentence. No cracks or anything else. The good thing?... This sucka jam!! It sounds as good as my other M70 and still pumps despite its appearance. New belts and A LOT of love will be needed to bring this one back.
A close up of the "battle wear".
Some paint on the grille - no biggie.
Now that I've calmed down a bit, I can say that I am ultimately pleased with this purchase. It was the M70 that sold for $100 including shipping. I had actually seen the listing before I read blu_fuz's post about it.
I will definitely be customizing it - new paint and other stuff. I've already contacted Norm regarding an LED kit with warm white lights. Any suggestions??
