I have a short list of TV series that were cancelled that I think should not have been:

  • Surface - From a couple of years ago. It ended after first season and the ending left viewers with a lot of unanswered questions! Good writing, good story, good acting... There's actually a huge petition online to bring it back...

Daybreak - Broadcast ended 2/3 way through the season, but you could at least watch the end online

Bionic Woman - I think the writer's strike killed this one. I thought it was decent enough.

There were others, but I cannot think of them right now.

What a huge question that is, there have been so many shows.

I don't know why but when MASH ended I felt abandoned. :'-( I don't remember if it was cancelled though, not sure what the terms were that ended that show.

Okay... I guess I should have qualified my statement a bit... There are a ton of shows that were cancelled that I miss which were great (Including the three mentioned). The ones you guys mentioned so far were shows that actually had a pretty good run before they ended up on the chopping block.

Columbo, MASH & Hill Street Blues were on the air for a combined 73 years, I think... ;-)

Anyway, what I really meant were TV shows that were cancelled within the first season, or never made it to a second season...

That makes it much tougher to remember, shows that were cancelled in the first season don't usually stick in my mind very well. I'm going to have to think on that for a bit. :hmmm:

Lately...

Journeyman (lead actor Kevin McKidd eventually turned up as Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey's Anatomy)
Life on Mars (U.S. version) (there was a BBC version that ran 2 seasons, followed by a sequel, Ashes to Ashes)

Long ago...

Bay City Blues (a 1983 Steven Bochco series starring Dennis Franz and Sharon Stone about a minor league baseball team; canceled after only 4 of the 13 completed episodes aired.)
The Sanford Arms (a 1977 attempt to continue the Sanford and Son story without Sanford [Redd Foxx] or Son [Demond Wilson]. Also canceled after four episodes. Cool show because many of the original S&S characters participated, including Grady and Aunt Esther.)

Okay.... let's just say "shows that ended prematurely"

I actually remember that Sanford & Son spin-off show, and I was 11 in 1977!

I agree about Life On Mars. I watched every episode this past season and enjoyed it.

Two more that come to mind that could have surely been extended for another season or two are:

Jericho
&
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
