Still working on the Goldstar tsr800. Discovered the variable tuning cap was toast...full of wax that had crept in. The FM side was working over some of the range, but the am/lw/sw side was shorted out on the main two gangs. Looking at the polyvaricons out in the market place, not all have separate tabs for the two trimmers on the two gangs on the AM side, which is a pain cos that's what i need. The FM side - seems like they all have the trimmers directly connected in parallel, which is standard and what was in the box before.
So i was able to measure the 4 old tuner cap's pF trimmers and made a note. I know the 2 main fm gangs need to go to about 35pF. Trouble is the AM side being shorted i couldn't measure. Does anyone know what the AM capacitance needs to go up to, bearing in mind maybe that it also does longwave and shortwave? I'm also looking for a tuner cap with a 10 or 12mm extended shaft, if anyone knows of a hidden source that ticks all these boxes?
