I can have it for $ 18, apart from few scratches on top it is in excellent condition and in working order, but it has detachable speakers 2x 15W, and manufacturer is "Tristar" (I've never heard of it), so I wonder if it is a boombox or not.

I'd buy it only to fix scratches and sell it afterwards, but I can't tell if it is really 80s boomox, or 90s pile of plastic with no value as collectable.

Can someone please shed some light. Thanks in advance!

for $18, if you like it, grab it! You might be surprised, it may sound better than it looks! :-) Has a shortwave tuner, line in, and....10 band EQ!! :w00t:

I have one of these, they redefine the adjective 'cheap'.
I only got it cause of the amazingly cheeseball graphics around the EQ.

There are a lot of AKA's of this, but the quality is nothing like the original Sharp models they stole the design from.

Rock On.

Thanks for replies.

I don't like it, but since I've seen a lot of people here drooling on at least look-alike big black boxex with vivid colored signs and markings (Lasonic, Helix, Elta...) I reckoned that perhaps I could resell it, and put on the side a bit of cash for a boombox of classic configuration which I'm looking for - (single deck, circular speaker net, typical metallic shades of gray or bright color, VU meter (at least the one with LEDs), no sliding potentiometers ,but classic rotary ones, upfront on face (not on top, including switches).

Buy it anyway  Looks ok to me, like you say you can always sell it on  Nothing wrong with sliders, worked for Sharp with the GF range ;-)

It's been on auction for a long time, and no one has placed a bid, despite over 240 views. The default seller's price is untouched, and that makes me suspect its value/potential, since it has been viewed by collectors and repairman-resellers who are lurking daily. :hmmm:

Other boomboxes on same auction site get several bids during first day, this one got none for a week or so, and auction expires in in less than 48 Hrs.

It's fugly  Apart from being big, the whole design is horrible. Just take a look at that "graphic equalizer" stepped-vertical sign, it's hideous, just like "decorative" part hiding the speakers

If I get it, I'll be stuck with it, because initial price + shipping + polish paste + sandpaper, maybe even back cover repainting, it would go up to at least 40 euros, and that is what it can be sold if you find someone clueless about the repair. Add to those 40 euros, the shipping which buyer would have to pay, and it becomes a no-seller.
