Toshiba 3-piece RT-S953 ** NEW Co-Axial Drivers coupled with PASSIVES

Hey box freaks! Back again with another speaker mod. I got this Toshiba RT-S953 3-piece boombox with rotted drivers. The original speakers were co-axial full range speakers & passive radiators & all the foam surrounds were rotted completely. I wanted to keep the original design & used some excellent Volkswagen co-axials coupled with some modern passive radiators I ordered from China on eBay. I put some acoustic wool in the cabinets & used rock-mat sound deadening matt to tune the cabinets a bit & viola!!

Decent bass & the sound is quite clear & musical although it doesn't come out quite as clear in the videos but you get the general idea...

This Toshiba WX-1 had the same issue with bad drivers robbing its power for a mediocre result that is overall, inefficient compared to modern speakers. I created a 3-way, double woofer design ot replaced the outdated passive radiator setup since the original woofers were coming apart from age...

Welcome back man . Those look great I had the 953 and sx 1000 and I agree the speakers do rob power you're way better off with the setup you have now
