Hi everyone,I think I may have hit a new world record (at least for myself) by bringing my Sharp GF-8989II out to my friends fish-house on Lake Minnetonka last Saturday!! The temp was 12 Degrees Farenheit with a windchill of at least -10!!:0
Well FM was great and yes it did play the tapes!!!! I couldn't believe it as below 26-30 on any box I've had a 'Slow' and dragging tape.
I did have to exchange cassettes after a while but yes it played and at almost exact spied!!
Strong Duracells and the fact that I have totally serviced this deck with special synthetic Singer Sewing Machine Oil!!! (5-30) weight!!
Just kidding but it is thin oil.

My friend and his daughter were impressed with it.
Yes I have photos on my Galaxy phone that I will eventually post here sitting right on the frozen lake!!!:)'
Got to love the Sharp GF-8989II!!! A new cold weather record!!! :)

Unfortunately they are not designed to operate in sub zero temperatures. :nonono:
Many plastic components can harden, become brittle and might crack like glass.
I've no idea what can happen to speaker cone paper and voice coils. Will they deform???
If it is lithium greased bearings on the motor it would survive. If it is oil lubricated... it could be risky depending on the the temperature range it can handle. It might get very viscous, put extra load on it and heat up.

Hope you had some "antifreeze" of your own, Jeff! 'Tis the season! :newyear: 'Gotta keep the operator functioning correctly... ;-)

Way to get out and have some holiday fun & science combined...as I say this, it's starting to snow here.

It's all good, heck I was doing this in the 80's with my first one!!:)
