I've been on quite a roll recently with my collection. Last night I had the chance to clean the dust off of this beauty. I feel like I got a great deal on this one. It was a Buy It Now and I snagged it up fast.

Now I collect mainly based on my personal taste in aesthetics and appearance. I usually like to have flashy eye candy. Don't get me wrong, I love my M90 with its great sound, but I have great memories of the flashing lights and heavy chrome accents on HUGE boomboxes from the swapmeets and flea markets when I was a kid. So I'm typically drawn to big and blingy.

Anyways I've been venturing new avenues with my collection lately, and I have to admit that I really like this one more than I expected :-) Its in GREAT condition. Whoever owned this took excellent care of it. After shining it up, I like it even more. I think it came out very nice. Its fully functional all the way around and I couldnt be happier. Enough boring talk Lol, here's my new JVC in the "wild" and inside after the clean up, and a few short videos at the end. I'm throwin up the Breakfast Club fist in the background Lol, (not shown in the vid) Hope you enjoy the pictures everybody. Cheers!

Heres a short Video playing through the iPod ;-)

That is really clean. You either love or hate a 838. Has its own look and is built like a tank.

Thanks Joe, a tank indeed, this is one heavy radio even without the batteries in it. I guess that's how LL got so buff over the years

Nice JVC - that top brushed metal plate looks awesome - how did they keep it so minty?
That is on my wanted list for sure.

Congrats,

James... :-)
Thank you James, I asked myself the same question :hmmm: This ones a true survivor. This was definitely someones baby because its in really awesome shape with the exception of a few very minor scuffs and scratches.

love it !
side by side in my mind it's nicer than the m70 just nowhere near it in the sound department though. if you can get used to the fact the 838 was not designed for bass it's a great sounding radio. i stumbled upon one that's a strong 9/10 condition for cheap , can't believe i own one that nice.

I agree that the RC-838 is just a wimp compared to the M70. The 838 is so packed inside but it NEEDS a woofer upgrade bad if you really want to rock with it.

Love the pre-80's look. Almost like you could broadcast with it too :-)

Was the Toshiba RT-S933 BomBeat 40 launched later or earlier? Don't know soundwise but always fancy chromed or metal round speakers over squared ones!!
