Hi all,I have been quite lucky as of lately as I have sold at least 2-3 eggs for $20.00 each and have sold one one of a few duplicates and triplicates!!
I sold my Sony CFD-550 to my brother and a smaller Toshiba both of which I had 2 of.

This makes me happy as I have so many boomboxes that I was just running out of room!!:0

I'm down to maybe 160 or so now and I plan on selling about 10-12 more and then getting the 4-5 that I really wan't to finish my collection!
Sanyo Big Ben
Conion C100 F
Another M/90
M-71
Discolite
GF-9090

I know these are spendy ones but if I can get these in the next 3 years I'll be happy and
basically my collection will be compete!!!'
This would be so cool!!:) :)
I will have a few for sale or trade next month so be on the look out!:) :)

Good luck with the downsizing and adjustments! I however feel a lot better because I thought I had a lot...until your post.

It's nice to see you are still around, Jeff. :-) Wow, 160 boomboxes? I agree with Freddie. I don't feel so bad now.

I'd like to know what constitutes a 'lot' of boomboxes. I mean, theres always someone we know with more, but as you get more boomboxes the 'normal' number seems to grow accordingly.

When does a collection become 'big'? 10? 20? 50? To a non collector having 5 might mean a lot of boomboxes? It's all very subjective and opinion based I believe.

I agree wholeheartedly with Jeff though, having a collection that pleases you with boomboxes you love is the recipe for boombox happiness. It doesn't interest me, personally, to have as many boomboxes as possible, but more to have all the ones I love that represent something special to me. That just so happens to be quite a few boomboxes...

Rock On.

Im right there with ya Rick. 160 is an awesome number, but if your not interested in some units, move them along. There are collectors that will eat them up.

Also, the idea and excitement that comes with a dream box is always there. Be it your 1st, 10th or 200th.

I've got about 25 and I think that a lot and need to reduce it a bit lol...my wife thinks its waaaay too many, I don't know what she'd think if I had 160..wouldn't be able to ask her either as she'd have left me by then ;)

But if I had the space, the money, and no wife I dread to think how many I'd have :)

That's a classic dilemma of the "Catch 22" genre! LIfe partner or boomboxes, boomboxes or life partner? Tough call, but a boombox won't cook a man his favourite (deep fried Snickers with garlic Mayonnaise) when he comes in from his works Christmas supper at 3am and wants to play some Dennis Brown & Horace Andy dub classics at full volume on his GF-555, a box which - as anyone who has one knows - only really makes sense when the volume slider is at the cold end of its scale, somewhere up past 11.
I dread to imagine how my ever tolerant, kind and friendly neighbour would cope if I ditched my woman and bought a further 100 boxes..... But maybe it's worth finding out because 14 isn't enough, especially when four of those are duplicates that I bought to part out but restored instead when I discovered that they weren't too badly broken after all.

160 seems about right for a collection, congrats on finding the courage to reduce the size of the fleet.

160, damn thst seems alot to me

Ive kept a record of nearly every box ive had since collecting and, if i had never sold or traded any, i would be up to about 80.
However with sales and trades etc im on about 45. And that seems alot. What pains me most of all is as much as love most of my currant lot i just cant fit them all in anywhere and they end up scattered around the house in the attic etc, not seen or used :sadno:

I want to sell a few more and get down to about 30, after that i will only get a new one if i sell one first,,,yeah right

Yes,I did get a bit out of hand but I'd like to get down to 120 plus 5-6 more boomboxes I need to ffinish off my collection.
I can't wait to get a larger place and so can get racks or shelves to display my Pioneers,Sharps,JVC's,Sanyo,Toshiba,Aiwa,Panasonic,Sony,General Electric,Lasonic,Candle,Emerson,Sears,Magnavox, and Ect...... :)
I think finishing my Sharp 9000 series is only 2 l
more and my JVC RC-M series is only 1 away, this will make 2 very special sections!! :)
Yes 120 is a min,maybe 140!:)

I've decided that the only way I'll experience some of the radios I want to hear in my lifetime eventually is to hold them all for a while and then move them on, hopefully in better shape than I received them. :hmmm:

So many boomboxes, so little time. I have 30 and I'm downsizing, too. Not all of us have Shane's space! :w00t:  I have decided to keep the best and move the rest. That means everything except the M-90. :-O

One of the things with collecting a large amount of Boomboxes is the fact that you really can't enjoy them. I mean 100 Boomboxes sitting in a closet or even a room piled on top of each other. You can't look at them, you can't listen to them all, heck and if they need restoration then you may never get to fixing all of them. The most I've ever had at one time was between 45 and 50 but I was able to keep them all on shelves.

But another one of the biggest problems with large amount is trying to keep dust and dirt from getting into them which will also mess them up, especially ones with controls on top like M70 and 9994. So in my opinion keeping enough of the grails in your possession in which you are able to maintain and enjoy them all is better than having hundreds that heck, some you may never knew you had is at bottom of pile.

Like I said its only my opinion ;-)

Another way of enjoying allot of boxes is through mini meets. I have been lucky enough to see some amazing collections by meeting up with members. It helps you "Test drive" radios before you buy so you can get only the good stuff.

There are several categories of people who buy boomboxes.

1. Many of them act like collectors but at heart they are pure business people. They show lots of pictures of what they have and one fine morning will say I need some "room" so I am selling it. You see the $ bill in their greedy eyes. Everything they do is for money.

2. A few of them really adore what they gathered over the years. They hardly sell any of them.

3. Some just add it to their collection for the love of it. They collect over 80 and 100.

4. Many of them buy it, restore it and enjoy it. Selling it is very rare, might trade it for another model.

5. Some stick to a few in their collection and collect only the best models they like, restore them and enjoy it.

6. Some are Pack Rats... buy everything they see.

7. Hoarders....are next..

8. ..... ....... the list is ongoing
