Took out the soldering station a few days ago. Had to make about 250 solder connections, so I would be soldering for a few hours. Over the roar of the soldering station fan which was drawing in smoke emitting from the burning rosin through the charcoal filter, I said out loud to myself, "Ah... the sweet smell of rosin..."

T'was at this point, I looked back and had to do a double take at the 6 eyes staring at me.... and noses pinched, all three of them.... wife, older daughter, younger daughter. The eyes, unblinking, stopped right in their tracks and taking a pause from the television screen to look at me. The eyes. The pinched noses. And though no words were spoke, as loud as can be, I clearly heard "Dude, Dad, You are Weird! And that stuff stinks!" :-O

I just smiled and went back to work. They just don't understand. :-D

You are correct my friend...they do not.

The smell of epoxy, the sound of a dremel tool....the scent of De-Oxit wafting through the air...

They cannot hide from the mechanical sound of tools whirring...test tones droning...to them it seems not fair...

Yes...my family also believes I'm crazy, what is that funny TV thing at which Dad stares?

And then the testing, the repeated testing and tweaking, the kids think there's no hope...

My wife tells them "Hang in there...he's not quitting soldering either, your best bet is just cope..."

I smile quietly, tell them I love them, and turn back my attention to my trusty oscilloscope. :-D

They just don't understand the sweet smell of "Crayolas" that some chrome cassette tapes (BASF Chrome Maxima II) have, and that particular "vintage smell" vintage tape decks give off while listening to tapes for a good 2 hours!

Ok, go and smell your Chrome (Position II) tapes have! Remember, Crayola Crayons! LOL!

Hah, my wife had a friend drop by a few months ago...I was soldering up a storm in the 'cave' , she came out and let out a sigh and said how that smell reminded her of her dad. Guess he used to tinker around a bit too. :-D

Norm,

I raised two daughters with my wife in a small house....and with all the Nail Polish plus needed Removers....they don't have a toe to tap with!
