is such a great looking box but i could almost swear its the worst sounding jvc box i have owned. really nice looking theres worse boxes out there but wow wheres the beef.
i got a mint one today for twenty bucks. i still rather like it just wish it could have been a little nicer sounding. i have heard a lot of people complain about the lack of bass on the jvc m50. i guess i could see why they would be complaining if it sounded like this box. compared to a pc150 the m50 sounds like a kaboom lol.

Seems JVC got real cheap trying to capitolize and profit on their reputation and cool looks back then. All companies did this at some time and now we have some incrdibly crappy boxes to show for it.

At the time the PC series was manufactured, these were a part of the story. At least Sanyo had the decency to not fool anyone with the number scheme early on. (They did later.) If you had a Sanyo C9, you knew you had the best, but a C3 would sound like crap. MB is absolutely right as a PC-55/550 would be the bait to drool over while the PC-2/150/200 the compromised harsh reality. :-)

:-D U want good deep bass from a JVC PC series it would have to be the PC-5 a solid boombox with plenty of bass sound to spare  .

Bill, does the EQ work on your example?I have two.Neither have a working EQ which makes things even worse at the low end.One is black and looks beautiful with its chrome! The ceramic woofers seem to do little. The speaker sets have a very unpleasing balance to their sound. Most music will fall short in the bass. These boxes, however are powerful and extremely loud. This along with their looks make them beloved Old School designs in my mind.

I've often wished certain boxes (particularly '90s offerings) had been equipped with equalizer having a lot more gain.It would go a long way to assist getting a decent sound from boxes with compromised designs. This gives me an idea.As my 150s EQ is dead,I could do a test through its line in using the EQ settings on my Ipod to see what a 150 is really capable of doing..Also I could try a home equalizer for better results but that would hardly be a "portable" solution.Sure,I need to realize the practical limitation of the woofers themselves but it would be an interesting experiment.

the thing i am thinking with the eq on this box is while it does work it took several minutes of bewilderment to come to conclusion it did little to affect the sound. in fact i have a box a little smaller than this made by asahi and it blows it out of the water on all levels. i would have kind of hoped for sound someplace in the ball park of a m9996 with this one but it dosent sound as good as my m9940.
it might be interesting to open this box up and try to put some deadening material in the speaker boxes.
there is something how they resonate with all there plastic glory that just is horrid.

No love around here for the cheap JVC eh? :breakdance:

It's kinda like what happens with rich kids...when they've been driving daddy's BMW and now have to drive a minivan!

Given what JVC was producing at the time, you would expect just a bit more with the looks that tease. :-D

i mean i dont know. i know theres boxes for every budget companies put out,but i just dont know why this one sounds so bad.
is there something wrong with all the surviving specimens. its there something inside them that has just burnt out.
theres power there i mean the thing can go pretty loud.
they must have been built pretty decently. i mean i think most of the people who have one have one that works fully. i mean tape deck on my works really good. its not super light i mean the candle boombox i have that uses eight d cells wieghs about half as much and sounds worse.
i think the problem with these is with the speaker cabinets. i mean i am almost certain if you opened them up and threw in some matting it would make a huge differnce.
the tweeters on these look like there is little piezo tweets in behind those bullet facades. those probably dont help its cause much.
it has great looks i mean theres not much i would change about that.
i just wish it had the brawn to back them up.
