This is the first boombox in my collection. I am new here and have always loved boomboxes. I am a DJ in Toronto who has a deep love for fat beats on good audio equipment. Last week i was in a shop selling vintage electronics and i walked away with this fully functioning Silver ST 868. It is in very good shape and kicks 40W sounds very nice except at the top levels. what does anyone out there think of this. Has anyone ever owned one of these? would love to find the manual for it.

Hello and welcome, Leo Love!

That's quite a handsome box and a very good find, any chance of close-up shots of the top section so we can see the details? Pics of side/rear connections would be nice too!

I love that huge tuner window, and those big ol fat dustcaps. Congrats on your 1st boombox man, I guarantee it WILL NOT be your last! And welcome to the madness!

That Dustcaps are made with a White Canvas..

I snag one yesterday, but with some issues...

Nice box at all.

Cheers.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I have been enjoying my Silver. It sounds really sweet. Nice real rich tones. Having it hooked up to my mobile dj rig is just hours of fun. I even picked up some blank cassettes to record some mixtape with (Boombox Funk vol1).
I will take some more pics in daylight to share with you all, as my new box seems to be in pretty good shape. And SLO you are right i don't think this is my last one as i have already been looking for some other boxes. I would love to find a JVC m70 or m90 one day but i think my grail would be a minty National Panasonic RX 7000 or a Sharp GF 9696, can't decode. The more i research boxes and the more i find about other models with a reputation for sounding good, which i might want or other that just would look damn good in my cave.

Ok here are a few more pics. This box is in pretty good shape and required no work on my part. I hit up a local shop that carries a ton of old boxes but most of them are in rougher shape. I almost snagged a Clairtone 7974 on ebay today from a Canadian seller but i got outbid at the last moment. I don't feel too bad about it because cruising the classifieds in my area i found a very nice looking supposedly fully functioning M70 for a great great price i will pick it up on Friday afternoon. can't wait. will share once i have it. peace y'all

It looks even better than the first pics, so pristine.
Yeah it is in great shape. and now on to my next box. tomorrow i am going to see a local seller who has an M70 for sale and if the pics she had are any indication it is in great shape too. Seller also claims everything works as it should. I will share it with you all once i have it.

I have one of these, and its a great sounding box. Unfortunately the tuner needs alignment with an osciliscope or something. Can't get good reception at all, or lock onto stereo. This happens with at least 25% of all boomboxes I've ever purchased. Either the seller was lying when saying the tuner functions correctly, or something happened during shipping that damaged the circuitry. Or maybe the FM decoder chip goes bad over time.

You have a very nice piece of kit. I have the Montgomery Wards Airline version of that very boombox. No a top end pounder but very rich at low/medium levels. :-D
