Well here she is. My first boombox since an 'orrible modern, characterless Panasonic one I had around the year 2000. An absolute beauty - there's not a mark on it. If you didn't know it was 40 years old you'd never know it was 40 years old. Great sound quality through the tuner. Alas, the tape deck isn't working but it's something I'll fix (or get fixed) in time. No RCA line-in, annoyingly, so I'll need to order a 5-pin DIN to 3.5 jack before I can give her a thorough testing out with an MP3 player. Can't wait!

It came with the user manual and schematic diagram. Happy to scan them in if anyone needs them.

Nice, the 950 is a beautiful box and i think they sound amazing.

Get an fm transmitter than you can blast anything from it!

Dang, that TPR-950 is extra minty. Well done, Nathan!

However, be careful or you will one day find you have about 100 more boomboxes. :-D

I know! The wife is mad already because she knows what's coming :-P

There's a bit of faint paint marking on the right speaker grille and a tiny scuff beside the left tweeter but those are the only marks on the thing. Incredible, considering its age. I've found a local AV shop who can get the tape deck going for me too.

Edit - hopefully the next one will be something a little more obnoxious. Something covered in dials, light indicators, chrome and graphic equalisers - and hopefully it'll be plastered with words like "BASS" in capitals to give it extra power.

Very nice score! Never heard one but I hear good things about that model. Nice to read that you've found a shop that can get the deck up and running. Welcome to the madness!!

I had her blasting out some early Faith No More and some KLF earlier. Seemed fitting. Sound quality is pretty decent but my word that DIN line-in is super sensitive! I had to turn the MP3 player volume right down to the bottom otherwise it was unlistenably boomy. It was quite a juggling act getting the levels right between the two and even then it seemed really susceptible to outside interference. I've ordered a bunch of cassettes of eBay too! Hoping to pop it into the shop for repair next weekend.
