To start with...in my quest to find radios in Japan I was looking for certain things...

EYE CANDY was Very high on the list....I know what I love to look at and those are things that turned me on right from the beginning.

REFERRALS, so many people have bragged about certain models that I just had to see what all the hype was about .

RESALE. I knew some of these radio's are super hard to find here in the states and I thought I would try to bring something back for the US market that we normally just don't see.

SHEAR F'N SIZE ! ! ! Bigger is better right????

So......With out further delay.....

The first radio....

I have to say....this thing is a TANK. Much heavier then it looks
It needs a good dioxit on the input selector switches, but the volume and eq sliders are smooth as glass. I haven't had a chance to really crank her up yet. I want to get the selectors cleaned out before I let her rip!

As you can see....I also have the optional SK 900 model...in fact, I have 5 of them. I will be keeping at least one for myself. If someone is interested in one of these models, PM me.

This radio is a Japanese 100v with a 76 - 90 mhz FM and with the exception of missing one slider control, it is in really good cosmetic condition. Don't let the pictures with my forced flash fool you. The aluminum in the pictures looks pitted, but to the naked eye, it's non existant

Here is a video for you all to check out:

Totally agree Rick. These rarely come up in the states and then they are stupid money. I saw allot of these in Japan. I think if someone really wanted one, it would still be cheaper to buy it in Japan and pay the shipping then to get it off eBay in the US.

PAY FOR DOUBLE OR TRIPLE BOXING!

so far -- soooooooooooooooo goood

You know Ira, this is one of those radios that I have read about SO much that it peaked my attention enough to have to experience one. The one draw back right off the bat is the weight. I have other radio's that are this heavy and heavier and as I get older and my back tires more, those are sadly staying home more often. I'm not sure how often this would leave the house, just for that reason :-/

But, I have yet to really lite this one up. As I said, it needs a good cleaning on the controls. After that, we will see where she stands

Most boomboxes from Japan are so corroded. This one is soooo nice that it's uncharacteristic of japanese imports. You sure it came from Japan Chris? :hmmm: I remember my nephew once brought home fish from the market claiming it was caught cuz he couldn't snag anything with his pole and didn't want anyone to know.   Awesome score!

But agree on the weight. But more importantly, these are too nice to haul around. It's far more at home sitting on a console with the orchids.

She's all Japanese alright....I can't get Shiat on the radio with her here! :-D

I think I did luck out with this, the paint and plastics are all very good. Tuning window is clear with no scratches or dings. The tuning knob has some nicks, but it sticks out the farthest off the front.

Now, who has an EQ slider for me? :-D

Thanks Scotty. I need to learn how to use my new camera, that might help a little :dunce: But at least the point gets across.

I'll see if I can get another one unpacked on Sunday.....

Now where is my deoxit? :hmmm:

So Chris, have you gotten a 100v Step down transformer for these bad boys?

You know what, I've only been running the other Japanese radio's I got on batteries. I did convert the RC-838, but only because a transformer from a 120v version fell into my lap ;-)

I have spoken to Norm about what it would take to convert these and he said they really are all unique and would require special handling each. So I will stick with batteries. I could make the investment into a step down, But I would rather have another radio    :w00t:

Yes, there are big, honker 120v - 100v. step-down transformers that can be used in the U.S. to supply power to big, honker Japanese appliances, like microwaves and vacuum cleaners. But they're heavy and expensive and you don't need them for a boomer. This "mouse" works great for electronics. It's small, relatively cheap, and available at major Japanese electronics retailers, like Laox and Ishimaru. Like they say at Stake 'n Shake, "takhomasak" of them next time you're in Japan (or, better yet, get someone to do it for you). You'll be glad you did!
